My first "Sniper" and 100% newbie.

well my rifle is looking good. i still need to bed the action. i finally got everything in for scope, after some issues with Opticsplanet.

Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50mm FFP Mrad
4'' Vortex Sunshade
Vortex (Seekins) Precision Matched Rings 30mm Low's
Seekins 0moa Base (i know, ill probably end up paying twice now for a 20moa base but i got what i need for right now, since 1000yard shots are in my DISTANT future haha)

everything is mounted for now, gonna order some ammo, and try and get out to shoot as soon as i can (limited right now because of deer season and boss leases out for deer season)

ill get some pics posted soon as i can.

Shoot it until you get a feel for the trigger. It may not need adjustment. If I remember mine was at 2# out of the box. It gets a little slicker after a couple hundred rounds.
You don't need locktite if you do adjust it. Read this for info on 40X trigger. Team 40X

Awesome. Thanks for the link. I believe your right. The trigger is pretty nice the way it is. I cant wait to get out and test my setup. Its exciting

You may feel the need to upgrade at a later date, until then the money you would spend will buy some ammo and trigger time.

Hey guys. Been busy with work and doing some trading and finally snagged me a Smith and Wesson 500 with 4" barrel. So other then that I finally got around to uploading a pic of my 700 Police.

Nice. You don't necessarily need to plan on 1000 yds being in the "distant" future. Get some time in at 100-200 yards, and then start to work out longer as you can. Working long makes you work harder on your basic marksmanship skills, and who knows, you may actually be better than you realize, sooner than you think. Don't sell yourself short.

bigjoe,

Congrats on your first sniper rifle set up! As noted, 168 or 175 FGMM is a good place to start Use some ball ammo, as well. It's always good to have that dope if forced to shoot crap some day...

My first rifle was a Rem 700 VS that I had built into an M40A1 clone. I call it the "old dog" and after a decade of use it still holds zero and shoots 1/2 MOA when I get my feces cohesive. The PSS is a good start and may be all you ever need. Upgrades can always be accomplished later, as needed.

Enjoy that new rifle.
