Hello fellas... New to the hide and relatively new to the sport. I am dealing with a fairly limited budget so I'm trying to find something good for optics but I just do not have the funds to drop on a $2500 plus type scope like a zeiss, khales, nightforce, or otherwise.

I had looked into the Millett optics LRS scopes and they seem to have some of the desirable features that I need to be looking for, but I haven't had a chance to get behind one at all to know how well they are made. I don't much trust the reviews from their website which will obviously be biased in favor of their product, so here I am bouncing off you folks whose opinion I feel will be more reliable.

Any input would be greatly appreciated! I would say I'm working in the $400-$650 range for glass and need to get my hands on something that I can use to at least get into some competitions and not make a fool of myself. If it just won't happen on this kind of budget, feel free to let me know that I should just wait and save the money for a really top of the line scope. Thank you in advance for any help you can lend.

Welcome to the Hide. It's a great sport and you don't need to drop big bucks to get started. But, I'd probably try to steer you away from Millett, or any other Chinese scopes. Millett LRS-1 Problems....Uggh...... - The Optics Talk Forums - Page 1
In that price range there is no help going up to above 16x, the resolution is too poor to gain much improvement. Resale is poor. I, like most others on this board, will recommend a SS 10x or 12x ( or 16x if used in full daylight) fixed until you can save up more. There are a few other good sub $700 options to look at too.
Vortex HS-T 4-16x44
SWFA SS 3-15x42
Vortex PST 6-24x50 sfp

Some have had good luck with Falcon Menace 4-14x, but I would go for any of the others first.

What kind of shooting and at what distances/target size? If you could live with 10x, there are some really great scopes under $750.
Myself, I'm not too interested in glass above 16x for under $900 minimum. Resolution trumps magnification.
SWFA SS 3-9x42
Sightron SIII 3.5-10x44
Weaver GS tac 3-10x40
Leupold VX-R 3-9x40
Burris Mtac 3.5-10x42
SWFA SS 10xHD
Vortex PST 2.5-10x32

my first rifle had a millet 6 x 25 x56 mildot scope with 1/8 in turrets. now as far as accuracy out to 1000 yds it was right on. as far as clarity it was almost as good as my bushnell elite 6500 4 x 30 x 50 at 1000 yds full zoom. at closer ranges and lower zoom the bushnell was definitely better. This scope did everything I wanted it to and didn't fail. for the 450$ I spent it was well worth it no complaints. Only big pet peve I had was the 1/8 turrets were still marked with 1/4 markings so you had to double the numbers. Yes there are better scopes but for the price and a first rifle with no experience it was a good first buy. maybe I got a good one, the 12 yr old kid in china made it instead of the 8yr old.

In the used optics I just seen a sightron 8 x 32 x 56 with mildot reticle I think it was down to 600. this is a definite better buy than a millet if your budget allows. Ive been told SWFA is really good too for price. My best advice buy as much as you can afford

Run as far away as you can from millet and don't look back. I had one mounted on top of a .308 (not to sure why i bought it in the first place)... but it didn't survive 52 rounds of .308 before the internals were literately falling apart. Sent it back and Bushnell took almost 6 months to get me a new one which was sold way before it even arrived at my house. During those 52 rounds, it did hold zero, it did not come back to zero very well was always about 1/2 off in any direction (verified by other shooters). There were more problems but i'd simply just say run.

I did buy mine about 6 years ago. maybe quality went down hill. It was on a .308 savage

I have heard horror stories and just as many positive stories.

I considered one, but decided to save/spend the extra and move up to a Vortex.

I do have a Millett DMS on an S&W 15-22 (rimfire) and it works. But not as nice as the Burris MTAC I have on an AR. But a lot cheaper. :)
