2013 Steel City Precision Rifle Challenge - Birmingham, AL

It sounds like I picked quite the match to start with. My app has been in the mail a few days and should be there soon. I am looking forward to it.

Folks, we're quickly approaching critical mass with registration. As previously stated, we're not going to overbook this match. If you'd like to join us, please don't wait too much longer to register. At the current rate apps have been coming in, we'll easily be full by the end of October. We're not holding spots for anyone. If you want to shoot, please send in your app and entry fee.

Once we're full, a waiting list will be established. In order to maintain a spot on the waiting list, you'll need to send in your app along with a check for registration. Your entry fee won't be processed until you're cleared to shoot.

I've received several recent e-mails and PM's inquiring as to whether or not the match is full. The answer is still no, but that likely won't last much longer.

Thanks!
Dave

If anyone has an interest in camping friday night at the range pm me to let me know what time you will arrive, and if you will tent camp or bring a camper...

All registered shooters have been sent details as to what to expect at the match including shooting scenarios, target distances and approximate round count. Due to a few cancellations, we still have VERY limited room. Please PM me if you want to shoot but have not yet sent in your application.

Fun factor will definitely be high!

Hmmm. Didn't get any bounce backs.

Just sent it again. If anyone doesn't get it, please send me a PM or e-mail and we'll figure it out.

A quick note, we will be having a Toys for Tots charity range day next Saturday, November 9th.

The range will be open from 9:00am through early afternoon. The range fee is $50 and all proceeds will be donated to Toys for Tots. There will be rifle steel to shoot from 100-725yds as well as pistol targets of various type to practice on. It will be a great opportunity to check out the range, work out dope and give your gear a dry run.

You don't have to be registered for the match to participate. If you think you might be interested in attending, please send Richard Crouse a quick e-mail at [email protected]. You don't need to pre-register, we'd just like to have an idea of how many people to expect.

Just cut the final shooting lane through the woods on my last stage...i managed to step in two different yellow jacket nests which was awesome. I will be looking forward to taking out my revenge on them tomorrow.
It was worth the stings cause these stages are gonna be awesome!

Folks,

The match is officially full. If you'd like to shoot, a waiting list has been established. If you'd like to join the waiting list, please submit a application along with a check for your match fee. Your check won't be processed until you have been cleared to shoot.

Please don't send PM's or e-mails asking if there's room. We'll make every effort to accommodate everyone on the waiting list but currently, we're full.

so far i have 2 guys camping on friday night, one tent and one camper. if anyone else is considering it let me know your plans.
i will be camped that night as well...the gate to the property will be open in the afternoon and i will close it probably at 9pm.
i will get my cell to those who are camping through private message for contact.
just an fyi- the range has a strict no alcohol on premises policy...just wanted everyone to know.

Toys for tots shoot tomorrow , then match next Saturday. Let the games begin. There will be some pistol set up for practice this Saturday also.

The match stages are fun but challenging. This will be a great match for all level of shooters. The sponsors have really thrown down for the prize table. It has to be the largest I have seen for a one day match.

That means a lot, Todd. Appreciate the kind words greatly.

There are a lot of good matches in this SE region. We've supported other matches usually with gift certificates for labor. We're in a pretty thin margin business and coming out of pocket for parts hits the wallet hard. But we've wanted to support local events more if possible. And when we heard David and Jim were hosting a match, we knew this was the right one to support in such a way.

I can't say enough good things about David. I've know him a long time and he has always been a true gentleman. Just a great personality full of life and excitement with never a negative word to say; always positive. I met Jim at the Mammoth Cave match a few years ago. For David to hang around someone and choose him as a shooting partner, well, that says a lot. The more I got to know Jim the more I came to respect him as well. Everyone stepping up to help this match is a testament to the character of these individuals. I am confident the match will be a great one.

We're excited to be part of this event and look forward to even more great events with these wonderful gentlemen.

Mark

Hey Mark,
Are you coming to the match? I need to get you my Elisio for you to glue. Let me know and I'll just bring it.
Thanks,
T

I was told somewhere around 120-140 rounds. I'll let someone else confirm that. Has me a little concerned since I thought I had another box of 175gn smk but don't so ill be shooting two different loads to be able to have enough unless I can find some 175gn smk local. Work won't allow any loading for me after Tuesday so ill mark my mags for each load I guess.

I would plan on shooting 100 rounds rifle. May be less if you clean the stages.
For the pistol 60 rounds or so. Again if you clear the stages...
As a good rule of thumb bring extra. Always bring more than you think you will need.
David just got back from being abroad and will clarify further.

Guys, the estimated round counts were noted in the info piece I sent out week before last. If you didn't receive it let me know. If you haven't read it, please do so. It should answer just about any questions you have to prep for the match.

Everyone will unbag and holster the pistol on the first stage and keep it on for the entire match. Everyone will re-bag their pistols on the last stage. We definitely don't want a bunch of extra pistol handling during the match. As noted in the info piece, the parking lot is not an area for pistol handling. Hopefully that makes sense.

Thanks!
David

Just for clarification, I realize this is a individual match but do we use a spotter or not ?

No Scott, everyone will shoot the stages individually without spotters. There are berms behind the long range steel and should give you good signature for corrections.

Mark and Dave from Accurate Ordnance are both planning to attend the match unless something unexpected comes up.

i read all the info in the email links and did not see the round count , sorry. but question answered. it will be my first match.

Sorry guys, I didn't mean to be snippy about the round count questions. Here is what the info piece stated about the estimated round count:

"Round Count: You will need approximately 125 rifle rounds and 75 pistol rounds to complete the match. It wouldn’t hurt to bring a few extra rounds, especially for the pistol."

Again, if anyone didn't receive an e-mail from me with the PDF with match info, please let me know and I'll re-send to you. It is important to read this information so you'll know what to expect on Saturday. After you read it, you'll have a very good idea of what we'll be doing in the different shooting areas and know how to prepare and what gear to bring (and more importantly, what gear you won't need) Thanks in advance for taking the time to do this!

Thanks!
David

I'm still not 100 % sure if I'm gonna shoot the 23in 6creed or the 18 in 308 to practice for mammoth.
