Rifle Scopes Scope Advice

Looking for some advice on a scope.

This is going on a custom ar15 build:

16" Barrel
Removed front sight post.
Geissele mk2 ff handguard
Geissele sd-e trigger.

Will mostly be used for target, some varmint hunting, 100 -> 300 yard shooting.

I've been shooting on & off all my life, but have recently really gotten back into it, and want to really learn how to shoot.

My budget is around $500 give or take.

Eyes aren't as good as they used to be, so higher magnifications helps.

I've been looking around, really liked what I saw in the Viper PST 2.5x10x32, but @ $800, that's a little over my reach.

I'd like mil/mil if possible....

Any good recommendations from personal experience?

Thanks for any advice you've got to give!

vortex hst mil/mil... one of our fine vendors carries them at the ready.

Which vendor has the Vortex HS/T?

How does it compare to the PST line of scopes?

Rangewalker (or something like that carries them, mike at CStactical does too).

as for the glass, essentially the same except it has a wire reticle and no illumination. Vortex may have it's downs but they have a pretty solid warranty.

The SWFA SS 3-9x42 is an excellent scope for $599, they pop up on samplelist for $499 sometimes. I really like the mil-quad reticle. The others mentioned so far are great options too.

Thanks for all of the input...

If you had to compare the SWFA SS 3-9 to the Vortex HS-T -- is there a better choice between the 2?
