scope for my ar-15???

Not to hijack this thread but I have the same question for my ARs.

I shoot mainly 62gr SCBT M855. Barrels are 1:7 Twist Socom Profile. Ideally I want to shoot tight groups out to 100yds. After that just hittjng the target is always fun I guess, its an AR which is not something I shoot for real precision competition.

I was looking at a few Vortex Optics but dunno whats good with an AR.

if only shooting to 400 yards and looking to stay in the 500.00 and blow range
Viper PST 1-4x24
Burris Tac 30 1x4
higher $$$ a nice Acog
unless you are running a longer barrel I would use a short an light scope

The Redfield is nice .I have one and now there's a 45 dollar rebate .

Gun is just used for fun plinking and Ill shoot coyotes up to 300 yards with it. Ill also use it as a backup deer hunting gun if need be:) bullet weight will be 55gr

$45 dollars rebate.... buying it. funny thing is I just called cabelas and talked to them about a scope with a rebate that actually didn't have one and they are sending me $25 gift card for the inconvenience and I have a mail $10 coupon. This is going to be sweet. Thanks for the info.

What about something like the burris 332? It's sort of a poorman's ACOG, straight 3x with a BDC reticule that works fairly well with 55gr ammo. For just plinking around and you don't want to spend a lot that would be fine.

I have the Nikon P223 3-9x40 BDC 600 in a Nikon M223 mounted on a 16" AR 15 chambered in 5.56. I like the scope so far. Sight in was easy. Glass is pretty clear. I really like the addition of the SPOT ON app technology for the Nikon scopes. I do not have experience with many scopes so it may not be the best but I like the scope and have no complaints. Only thing I would change about my choice is that I would get a Larue QD mount and I would have probably went with the 4-12x option. If rather have extra magnification.

ETA: With Nikons Spot On technology you can use this scope with any caliber and any weight bullet and you just plug the info in and have an instant ballistics chart. Very easy to use for someone like me with little experience with these types of things.

no its not a poor mans acog . it dont come close in any way . the reticle sucks past 50 yds and is way to busy for any precision the bc are to small to see unless the illumination is on and the image is dark been there and done that . a 1.25 x 4 leupold mk ar mod 1 would be a much better option for the same or less money .

i have the p223 also, its a great scope for the money. the glass is really good, turret clicks are nearly perfect and the spot on software really is awesome! i have a bushnell elite 10x and a leupold vx2 3-9x50 and it seems every bit as clear. i dont think theres anything even close to it in that price range... i wish they made a p308! the m308 is $500+..
i used a burris pepr mount, no complaints with it. i think it looks better than the nikon cantilever mount.. more beefier!

Leupold vx3 1.5-5x20 with illuminated reticle. Put a CDs dial on it calibrated to your load. It will go as far as the load is capable.

Of the scopes listed I would choose the Bushnell AR Optics Drop Zone-223 BDC Reticle Riflescope with Target Turrets and Side Parallax, 3-12x 40mm. I find that using the lower power scopes I have (ACOG's, NF 1-4X20, Leupold Mk 6) wanting once i get past 150 yards. So when I know I will be shooting anything past 150 yards I use a rifle with a scope in the 4-16X50 range like the Vortex Viper PST FFP. You could get by with a 1-4 or 1-6 scope out to 300 yards but for me it is much easier if I can dial up the magnification to a setting I am comfortable with. Usually 10-14X depending on target size and for closer shots dial back to the lower power range. I also use the Burris PEPR Fixed mount on many of my AR's and really like them. I don't see much difference over the LaRue or ADM mounts I have in terms of performance other than the QD feature which I rarely use.
