I have a chance to pick up a Remingtion R25 in .308. Im wondering if anyone on here has any experience with them? If i do get it it will probably be a Coyote rifle out to about 400 yards if it is accurate enough for that. P.S. the guy who has is letting me pick it up tomorrow and keep it a few weeks to tryi it out at the range before i make a choice to buy or not. It currently has an Leupold 4-14x50 on it but that doesnt come with the rifle at the price i can pick it up for. He said he was keeping 3/4 inch groups at 100 yards.. All thoughts and opinions of the R25 are welcome. Thanks

The are at least MOA capable rifles in the right hands with good quality ammo. Just remember...it is nothing more than a DPMS LR-308 rebranded with the Remington R-25 markings. The barrels are of decent quality in my experience but not great (CM...not SS, and fairly lightweight profile/contour), the barrels are free-floated which helps on the accuracy front a good deal, and the triggers as they come from the factory are generally just "ok" but again, are not great by any means. The couple samples I have fired had single-stage triggers, but all were heavy at ~4lbs or more. With an upgraded trigger, accuracy can be improved on at least somewhat, but for a ~400yd coyote rifle, if its getting the kind of accuracy its current owner reports and you can duplicate that or close to it, I wouldn't sweat it. It all depends on what price point he's offering it to you for as to whether it is/isn't a good price, but it'll serve your stated purpose well.

If it were me I think I'd pick up a DPMS .308 as they are typically less expensive than the Remington guns and are pretty much the same gun. Why spend more when you don't have to?

ETA: I dont know what you are looking at paying but here is one w/ a SS 24" barrel that needs just an optic and maybe a RRA two stage match trigger and you'd have a coyote hammer for sure.

This gun may be more expensive than the R25 you are lookin at locally but this one has a 24" barrel and that barrel is SS. Both of these are desireable for coyote but to each their own.

Thanks for the link to the dpms. Details say its a 18 inch barrel and it's chambered in .243. Not interested in the 243 as I have the ability to load .308 and it's $400 more then I can get the r25 for!

Ok so I picked up the R25 and went out Friday after 3rd thanksgiving dinner! It performed what I consider well. First 5 shot group I ran wasn't too bad. Three shots touching with the other two shots just below. Measurement was .78 at 100 yards. Second 5 shot group was a little larger at .91. The groups will probably get tighter as this is the first time I have shot an ar style rifle in .308
I was useing fggm 168gr. I'm going to try to get out again Monday. I want to try to run 10 5 shot groups through the day to get an average group size. My question is other the a muzzle break what else would you more knowledged in this field do to improve the rifle. Already has a timney trigger. Thanks!

Here is one of my tightest groups of the day yesterday out of my R25. Its a bit different shooting tight groups out of a gas gun then my rem700( at least for me it is)
Its 5 shots at 100 yards from a bipod and rear bag

Coyotes will not complain if your groups are not tight. You are minute of coyote start killin.

I have a DPMS LRL 308 and shoot sub MOA with it but it took me a good 300 shots or so to figure it out. Which really was a pain because I shoot my Rem700 sub MOA all day and for the life of me couldn't figure out why I was shooting 3" groups when I first got it. I put a PRS stock on mine which helped for sure. I reload 150 gr Noslers and after some practice, Im finally shooting nice groups. Looks like you've got it down though. Nice groups!!

I'm interested in the R25- My yote hunting rig is a R15 and I love it. I have other ars but that one is my hunting gun and since I travel alot I test it at 100 yds after long bumpy roads and have never shot a group more than MOA. For that I'm happy. I hope that the 25 will do the same. I'm not wanting a big heavy rifle, my r15 is just right when toting it around

There is a noticeable weight difference between the two but LR-308 platform is always going to be heavier when configured in the same style.
