I have a .338 edge that just got built. I would love to have it salt bath nitrited/melonited. I don't want to pay the $300 minimum order. i was wondering if anyone was sending a few out if i could throw mine in with yours and give you a few bucks for your time?

I can give you my limited experience with nitriding. I had 3 6mm barrels made. They were made back to back to back from the same lot of steel. I chambered them all in 6brx. They were the straightest barrels you will ever see. The two that were not nitrided shot under .25" at 200 yards consistantly. One shot a 200 19x at 600 yard fclass which is a national record, and the other shot a 1600 120x at a 600 yard fclass match. That match was out of 1600 so it didn't drop a point all weekend. I got the nitrided barrel back and cleaned it for hours. Looked in it with the borescope every 20-50 strokes or so til it looked clean. I used iosso to polish it up after cleaning with a liquid solvent to get most of the gunk out as that was the instructions from guys with more experience nitriding than me. I cant get it to shoot under .5 inch at 100 yards consistently. I tried 1.5 gr diff in powder and .005 off the lands to .050 off the lands. Ive given up on it and will not nitride any more of the barrels I receive. Barrels are expendable so Ive decided I will just shoot untreated barrels as Ive never had one from my maker that won't shoot a 1" group at 600 yards, except for the nitrided barrel. Take my experience for what its worth.

care to share who you sent your barrels to for the treatment?

I sent the barrels to mmi tru tec. The guy there told me it would take a 3 weeks to a month. After waiting a month and a half I called just to check the status he said it would be a another week or so. I called two weeks later and he said it was ready to ship out. Another month later it shipped back to me. Total of three months time.

I am curious on who you dealt with, was it Joel or Rodney? I know Rodney was running different types of metals in the same batch and that is a big no no, and it was yielding bad results. From what I have been told he is not longer working in this area.

I dealt with Rodney. That kind of sucks that they would do that and not tell the customers that they messed up. Waste of 80 bucks for the cost of process plus 3 hours cleaning the barrel and hours doing load development. On top of a barrel that is ruined. I only use Brux barrels for my personal guns and 90% of customer guns. Ken and Norm offer outstanding customer service along with the fact that all the barrels I have shot for fclass will hold that kind of accuracy. I even had a 7stw for a customer pushin 150 ttsx up to 3600 fps that would shoot a 1 inch group at 600 off a bipod. Yes I know thats a hot load it was winter in Iowa when we developed that load, 0 degrees. We eventually backed it off to 3500 fps. We never tried that load in the summer. A couple weeks ago I shot a .32" group at 200 yds with the 338 edge just sighting the gun in off a bipod. You guessed it, brux barrel.

Also I use HBN do you think I can also use it in conjunction with "melonite"

I do... On a 223 and 2 260 barrels... No issues.

Again.. Call h&m.. Ask for shade or bear... Tell them russ sent u from SH forum... He should be 200 or less

If its 200 for a batch price, then if you own any AR's send in your bolt carriers not the bolt head and have those done and the bolt out of your action, unless you're planning on doing the complete action just make sure no springs for firing pin
