Never got a chance to handle one and am interested in how they compare to others in its price range.

Features, reliability, design, materials and availibility of parts/mags...........

Does anyone have long term, hands on experince to evaluate if it is an acceptable platform?

Ratworx seems to be selling them for around $1400 which would put it in the T3 TAC and FN SPR price range.

Looks like a decent rifle for the money, just want some more info before I add one to the collection.

Cobra,

I do not own one but I do a significant amount of training at SIG and every course I have done I have managed to get some trigger time behind one. I have done six different sniper/LR courses over the last three years and each time my instructor has brought the same 3000 to the range (I can tell because of the krylon paint job) and what I can say is that it is an accurate, durable and fun rifle. The action is what they call a short throw and takes a round or two to get used to. I have not see a single issue with it when we have shot it and I would assume the round count is up there and it still using the same parts so its not wearing out to the wear and tear. I considered one on my last trip up there because the price has come down quite a bit but decide hold off. As far as parts etc. not an issue for me as I am very close to Sig but I would assume it would be easy to order anything you need directly from them. I am sure at some point one will make its way into my collection and as a stock rifle I put it in the FN SPR (own one as well) category at about the same price.

Mags seem to be out of stock everywhere and the illusive 10 rounder keeps getting pushed back. Someone here on the hide was looking to make barrel extensions for this as well so that would be something to look into if you want to switch barrels. Sorry man that's all I have for you. Tagging for other replies.

I think I may have used the same one as sulcop at sig, they shoot. I don't own one but would like to see it compared to the FN , couple guys I have contact with in the northeast that use them for duty love them...the sig

Do they have a switchbarrel/QD Barrel feature that can be swapped at the user level?

The SSG 3000 is really a excellent weapon in it's original shape.
The new and 'cheap' US version i have no experience with though.
Shot the Sauer 200 STR for many years, was my competition rifle when i was younger, so I've shot several thousand rounds through it in 6.5x55.
The 200 STR has the same action, trigger, barrel etc, just no muzzle break and a different stock.
Solid, reliable and accurate weapons system not uncommon a 200 can squeeze out 0.25 moa groups when bedded with the right shooter behind it, and quality ammo.
Here in Europe Sauer is great with parts availability, witch is important as except from a few stocks there's virtually no other aftermarket accesories for it.
They do have a very user friendly quick change barrel system, Sauer barrels are of good quality and they're actually very cheap compared to most.
Border barrels does make a barrel extension for it, so you're able to use normal match grade barrels on it.
There's also several triggers available for it, 22 LR conversion kit, and a lot of other accesories.

The problem with the SSG 3000 as far as i know is lack of aftermarket support from SIG in the US, as far as i've understood you will have a hard time finding parts for it at all.
McMillan makes a stock, and GRS that Kelby imports has a few models, that's about it.

So as the situation currently is you would probably be better served with a SPR or T3

I have heard they can be found in certain WalMart's for around $1500. The big downside is that the backup parts are scarce, mags are made of unobtainium, and the stock is not exactly high quality. That said I have read a few other threads about a person who bought one at WM, replaced the brake, replaced the sling studs (installed in plastic with wood screws (?)), and installed 2 small picatinny rails.

Mags are available but expensive on GB for $99ea. Great rifles 1/2 or less MOA out of the box. GB has them less than Walmart.
