I paid for some class 3 toys at a local gun shop about 12 weeks ago, and they placed an order from the manufacturer with an eta of 6 weeks. I say great, just give me a call when they come in and Ill come fill out my form 4's.

8 weeks go by and no call, so I give them ring and they say the manufacturer isnt done yet. I call at 10 weeks and get the same response. Today, 12 weeks later, I call and I am told the same thing. Im a little upset, so I give the manufacturer a call and ask what was going on. They tell me everything has been ready for 4 weeks and they are waiting on payment from the shop. wtf?

I go to the shop and ask again when I should get them in, and they said there isnt an eta from the manufacturer. I called them out and then they backpedalled and gave me a story about how their company credit cards arent working and the manufacturer only takes credit cards. I called up the manufacturer on the spot to verify, and was told "No, we take any form of payment, cash, check, etc". The shop manager then said he was told differently but couldnt remember who he had talked to, and that he would set up payment on Monday.

Anyone else have this happen? Is it proper to pay the manufacturer just to get them shipped and ask the shop for a partial refund of the difference? I just want the stuff I paid for and I feel like Im being held hostage by a shop that for whatever reason hasnt paid.

That sucks. I have not had that happen but I did have issues with one deal. I had a friend/dealer who passed away while I had a suppressor in transfer and an aow shotgun. I did not have a reciept for the sale as he was a friend. His sister came out to deal with his stuff and the ATF. Initially she was calling everyone in his cell history to let him know he had passed and she was writing down who had what coming ect... but then the scumbags came out of the woodwork claiming he owed them all sorts of things. She did not know who was telling the truth and who was lying so without a reciept she would not deal with anyone. Ultimately his brother in law let her know he and I were close and had done some work together so we worked it out. and I got the can. The shotgun was another hassle. It was already cut down but he did not log it yet. The atf agent told me to hold on to it untill the paperwork showed up? On top of that because it was not log'ed then they had to cancel the aow application ($5) and have me resubmit it as a shortbarreled shotgun ($200). The agents knew less than I did about the laws. They had to call some main office all day long with questions. I do not believe they were correct in having me take the reciever without approved paperwork. But it was changed to me being the manafactuer so what I ended up doing was taking the barrel out and storing it at another location untill the form 1 was approved then I put it all back together.

If you have the option, use a different shop. If they can't keep on top of simple ordering and payments, then what should you really expect as far as the rest of the deal?

The smaller shop that I dealt with bought items in groups of six. I told them I was interested and that I'd pay the amount KNOWING that they couldn't order until they had orders for six cans. I knew all of that going in.
