Personally, I am not a fan of any BDC reticle. IMHO, get something with a Mil based reticle like a G2 (since you're looking at Bushnell) and know your ballistics.
 
I've shot too many BDC scoped rifles where the load or conditions don't match the trajectory of what the reticle is calibrated for. Just seems simpler to use a mil based reticle and know the trajectory of your load in mils. It's confusing using a BDC reticle that's not really calibrated for the load.
 
It's your rifle, so put whatever optic you want on it.

But you bought a weapon that shoots a round that max's out at best at around 800 yds, in a carbine configuration designed for CQB at ranges under 400 yds. One should always match your optic to fit the capabilities of your platform. In this case what your proposing is a gross mismatch. IMHO, and YMMV
 
I just ordered one for fun today to put on my budget AR build. I wanted a mil dot but couldn't beat the deal I got on it. My range at work is only 50 yds an the local is 300, but I always like to be a little overpowered than under on optics.

I'm interested to see how both of ours work out.

It is my new deer hunting rifle and will not be shooting past 200 yds. and I like to get my target up close if possible. 99% of the time I use a fairly stable rest when shooting at deer. I haven't killed a deer past 100 yds. with it yet. If I get into a place where I can shoot out to 800 yds. I take my antelope rifle which is a 6mm Norma BR. which is a real shooter. It consistently shoots under 2 inches at 400 yds. If I can see it better I can hit it better. IMHO.

I am interested in this scope too, would be perfect for my brother's AR. Also, thanks for the link to the custom turrets. I've bought Kenton Industries before, but like the look of those.

I am definitely looking forward to seeing some reviews from this thread, I have been seriously considering getting this for my daughters build as well I just won't have her use BDC and just dial dope. MOA turrets as well so it matches my scope so I can call out adjustments.
 
So... apparently it's snowing up north or something so shipping's taking a while. Don't have that problem here. It's been in the 80's the last few days. Estimated delivery of mine is next Wednesday.
 
Well we had temperatures in the 70s so mine got delivered. It is at night and I do need to get proper rings to mount it to my Colt LE6920 M4, but so far all I can say right now is WOW. The day after tomorrow I should be able to get new rings and after mounting the scope I will give you a better review. I may not be able to sight it in until next week. In the meantime here are a couple of pictures.

The first picture is comparing the Leupold 3-9x40mm Rifleman to my new Bushnell 4.5-18x40mm scope.

Well it is 10:30 this morning and I just got through focusing my new Bushnell 4.5-18x40mm scope and was blown away. I compared it to my brand new Leupold Rifleman 3-9x40 mm scope I had on my Colt M4. The Bushnell is so much clearer and sharper IMHO than the Leupold it blows me away. I was even surprised that it is crystal clear from 4.5 power all the way up to 18 power without any adjustment needed from low to high power. It is also crystal clear right to the out side edges of the lens at all powers. It also looks like a $1000 scope on the rifle. Now if it adjusts (like I expect) when I sight it in I will be 100% sold on it.

I bought some new rings today so here is the new 4.5-18x40mm Bushnell scope mounted. It looks like the power adjustment ring is touching the Picatinny rail, but it does not. Also there is plenty of room for the charging handle. Now all I have to do is bore sight it and sight it in at 100 yds.

From the bottom of the 1" scope tube to the top of the Picatinny rail measures 3/8". The riser measures 3/4" from the top of the Picatinny rail on the receiver to the top of the Picatinny rail on top of the riser. That puts the bottom of the 1" scope tube 1+1/8" from the top of the Picatinny rail that is attached to the receiver. This gives me perfect cheek weld when looking through the center of the scope lens.

The 1" rings I bought ($14) have only one screw on each side to clamp the scope. I got these because I wanted to be able to move the scope in the rings. With wider rings you limit the forward & backward placement on the scope to make your eye relief correct.

Here is my latest up date for my new Bushnell AR/223 4.5-18x40 scope.

I got out to my hunting camp Sunday and the first thing I did was site it in at 100 yds. I bore sited it at home and thought it was very close right from the factory so I tried it at 100 yds. instead of at 25 yds. like I usually do. My first shot was 2" to the right and about 6" high. I counted the clicks for down and over left. The second shot clipped the 3/4" black dot I made with a Sharpie. The third shot was dead center. Then I set the turrets to zero for elevation (100 yds.) and zero for windage. Then I cranked the elevation turret up about 30? clicks and about the same for the windage turret. Then I turned them both back to zero and shot 2 more times at the other black dot which was closer to 1 " and both shots were in the black dot which made me very happy.

This scope is absolutely crystal clear and as sharp as can be at every power. I am very happy with it even though I didn't see any deer yesterday afternoon or this morning.

So for now I highly recommend it.

I have to mount mine farther forward than yours for me to get my cheek weld and see into the scope with the lens completely open to the outside of the eye piece. Look at my picture to see the difference Roadki11. Are you sure you don't need to move yours forward like mine? Yours also doesn't look as high as mine for correct weld? They might look different because of the different angles the pictures were taken at. I don't mean to be critical I'm just trying to be helpful. If I was holding yours up to my shoulder it might be perfectly set up.

What do you think of yours? Wait until you put holes in your target. You will be able to see them easily at 100 yds. at 18 power. I bet your groups will get smaller because you'll be able to hold the reticule on a bullet hole. (Aim Small, Miss Small).

Ya I sighted it in at 50 today (that's as far as my range at work) and was very pleased. I need to do a little adjusting to get my cheek weld a little better, but it wasn't too bad.

Overall though I love the scope. Very clear and good magnification.

That will be interesting to see. Those custom turrets look nice. I'll keep the original ones on for now since I shoot a couple different loads through it depending on what I'm doing (varmit, deer, target, etc). I need to work up some good loads for this rifle too.

As far as reviewing the scope, it's a killer deal. Smooth distinct clicks, very clear glass. And good luck finding an equal scope for the same price. If it was in mil-dot I'd get one for my .308 as well.
 
Now that deer season is over I got some Butler Creek Flip Open covers and went to the range. I shot some groups at 100 yds. with the scope adjusted to 18 power. After I shot the groups I turned the elevation up 15 clicks while aiming at the 1" bullseye I shot another group then turned the turret down 15 clicks and shot another 5 shot group. The reticle returned back to my zero and the group was right in the bull again.

I am still very happy I bought this scope.
 
Called Bushnell on this scope after speaking with a rep at SWFA (Buck or something short like that). He stated the clarity was on par with the VX-III ? ? ? One Bushnell rep told me it was based upon the Trophy XLT line. However, I received an email from Bushnell with some specs.
1st: Light transmission is only 85%.
2nd: Only rated for up to a 308, gives an indication of its durability.
3rd: It is waterproof, nitrogen filled, but does not feature the rain guard found on other Bushnell lines.

Reticle sub-tensions are as follows; 1st dot: 1.7moa, 2nd: 4.4, 3rd 7.6, 4th: 11.4.




Nice features, but glass/scope is made in china, not even the Philippines.

I just got off the phone with the service dept. at Bushnell. The guy (NICK) I spoke to about their AR/223 4.5-18x40mm scope told me that the Light Transmission is (92%). They also test them with a (375 H&H Magnum for 5,000 rounds).
He also said the lenses are made in the same place as Night Force in Japan.
As for the sub-tensions I do not care what they are because I will be adding these to my elevation turret and only use the cross hair.

What size of Butler Creek Flip Open covers did you get for the Bushnell AR OPTICS
4.5-18x 40mm?? I just bought one and it doesn't seem like there is a size for it.

When I was in Bass Pro they had the scope in the glass case so I asked the guy behind the counter to take it to the Butler Creek display. We then just kept trying them on until We found the ones that fit. The customers had taken them out of the boxes and put them back into the wrong ones. So I really can not tell what size they are. There were others that fit, but a little to lose for me so be careful when getting them for yours.

Alright thanks and I haven't got to look at it yet I have to wait until I go home for spring break to even see it.
 
Here is the new Nikon P-SERIES split mounts. I had to turn the rear one around because the clamp part would touch the power adjusting ring because it lowers the scope a little more then the old mounting system.

Now I'm waiting for my White Oak Armament Fluted 18" Varmint complete upper to get here in May. It will look something like this:
