Just bought a rifle from a friend, who lately, I come to find out has been over exaggerating prices to make one feel as of they got a good deal. Anyway, I bought a Remington 700 300 ultra mag from him. It's the Rocky Mountain elk foundation edition, with camo stock and stainless barrel. It's in good shape, a small scratch on barrel, but functions well. It was also professionally ported. I paid 600 but lately I'm really second guessing him and really not sure about pricing. New to this and would just like to know, one way or the other. Also are there any good sites for firearm values, one could reference in a pinch?

I'm not familiar with the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation edition, but for 600 bucks I'm guessing that your friend did not rip you off. As for referencing values, I usually go to gunbroker and search the completed auctions to get an idea of what they sell for.

As long as teh barrel isnt' shot out then you got a good deal. If the barrel is shot out then I'd say you paid a reasonable price for it.

Receiver - $450 for a RUM action
Trigger - $50
Stock - $75
Anything else to make up the $25 difference?

So you probably got at least a fair, if not good, deal out of it.

He has just been a little bit of an ass lately and figured I would ask a few strangers who were better informed than myself. Not crying just wondering if he took me, as he just tried to do on a 4 wheeler. Thanks for the info glad he didn't. Been a good friend otherwise.
The Glass I got for it is a monarch 3 4x16x50 with bdc reticle and went with power level 2 rounds @ 58.99 a box. :) can't wait to shoot this beast.

Thanks for the info. Not crying just being informed. Tried to get me on a four wheeler and knowledge is power. I put a monarch 3 4x16x50 on it and at 58.99 a box of 20. Not surprised barrel is good. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1386267584.578289.jpg

I guess I got a good deal when I paid $235 for a NIB 700 bdl in 300 Rum 2 months ago....
I only felt guilty for a day or two :)

That will be my next step twitch, baby steps lol but at ~ 3 bucks a round it begs to be reloaded

Yes it does. Get yourself some retumbo or H1000 and pick a bullet.

If you get bored with thenbig stuff I can personally attest that a 110VMAX at 4150FPS does nasty things to groundhogs and coyotes.

How was your accuracy? I have stayed away from sub 150 gr bullets in my 300's, mostly from negative press.

MOA or so in the factory 1:10 tubes. I had one build with a 1:15 twist tube and it was sub 1/2MOA with 110's and was a damn laser.

.300RUM is a mean round on large game. Mine shoots sub 1/2 MOA with 175gr Barnes LRX over 88 gr of RL22 @ 3361fps with the factory barrel. I have taken it out to 1200 yds. on 12" steel. Amazing how loud the ring on steel still is at 1200 yds.

When you almost take it from a trusted source, you start to wonder if he sneeky pete'd ya in the past. Was a trust deal. Trust has wavered since and knowing past dealings were not rotten sets precedence for future dealings. Bad time of year for many and greed and family needs may have led to ones actions. Doesn't mean I won't deal with him again, just a little weary is all. Can be too trusting at times. But I learn from past as all should.
