AI AX.308 w/ left handed action

Would anyone be able to offer any insight as to why I can't find any AI AX.308s with left handed actions? I really would like to buy one but I can't seem to find any with a left handed action (I am a left handed shooter.

I actually asked this question to AI last week and this is the email I got in return....


"We do make left handed rifles in limited runs, it is not a selectable option because you cannot specifically order one in that configuration, they are only available when produced. If you want one right away, your best option would be to look in the secondary market. Otherwise, there should be a run of left handed AX rifles sometime in the near future."

In a follow up email they stated more than likely the run would be after SHOT 2014. It is probably my next rifle if and when they ever product any.

But we will have to see as Frank is much more in tune with the AI product line than I am;
I just wish the upper tier companies realized the shooting community is comprised of 15%-20% lefties.

The whole S&B illumination for righties actually kills me everytime I drag my bloody knuckles across the rheostat of PMII..

I even think Sargent York was a southpaw.....

I am right there with you.

If the shooting community does comprise itself of the same % of left handed shooters (10-13%) as the general population what is the explanation for not routinely having a run of left handed actions with each production cycle ?

I know nothing of machinery or of manufacturing costs but obviously there are costs if new dies have to be developed. But if they readily produce 10% lefty rifles I would think they would sell easily.

I too love the s&b scope but that damn illumination knob.....
