I have never owned an AR15, I have always been an AK guy and really enjoy how they shoot although I am craving some more accuracy out past 100 yards. I am looking for an AR with a roughly 18 inch barrel which shoots 3/4 MOA with match ammo. I need recommendations because I have never bought an AR before.

I am thinking of mounting:

-SWFA SS MRDAD Scope 3-15x42: SWFA SS 3-15x42 Tactical Rifle Scope
-Maybe a Quick Detach Mount: SWFA Precision Optic 30mm Mount
-Flip sights

I saw this AR15: RRA R3 and it is at the top of my budget although it looks processing: Rock River Arms: LAR-15 R3 Competition Rifle

Please let me know what you would recommend, I wont be shooting past 300-500 yards.

Max budget: $1800 roughly. (including optics)

Thanks.

I just bought a RRA prediator in the 20" to shoot out to 600yds using the 75 to 77gr bullets. I put a scope on it last night and tried it out at 100yds to see how it would shoot with 75gr Hornady, 77gr SMKs and 77gr Noz. bullets.

I was very pleased with how well it shot. I had a .490 group and .520, .590 and a .860 group. These were all shot in a 10mph cross wind in 25 degree temps. The nice thing about the groups is that 18 out of 20 rounds were in .5 or under. All the groups had 4 shots in .4 to .5 I am sure the flyers were my own fault. You can buy the gun for around $1100. Well worth it in my book.

In today's market, that will buy you a lot. Get the best barrel, best BCG, and best trigger you can get.

You can get a JP upper for $1200, and a complete lower with Geissle trigger for $400. The upper will have a JP Supermatch™ 416R air-gauged, button-rifled, cryogenically treated barrel.

That set-up will have a superb accuracy, heat-resistance, no felt recoil, and is very light. You can configure how you want it with JP.

The JP rifles look great, although $1200 for an upper would basically take the entire budget I have for the entire rifle! I want to spend $1100 rifle, $700 scope, $100 rings : )

You might save a bunch of money by looking at the Bushnell AR/223 4.5-18x40mm scope. I have one and so far I think its glass is clearer & sharper than any of my Leupolds.

My Bushmaster Varminter w. 24" 1 in 9" twist barrel shoots the 69gr SMKs over 25.0gr of Varget @ 3033fps extremely well. Best group to date is .202". I paid $1050 for mine brand new, added a $450 Nikon M-223 3-12x42mm scope sitting in $79 rings. I have shot steel out to 703 yds so far with mine. 502 yds seemed easy compared to 703 for some reason, I think wind was playing havoc with the bullets at that distance. Look to go further in the next couple weeks.

I will be upgrading the scope/rings soon, to either a SWFA SS 3-15x42 for $699 or a Weaver Tactical 4-20x50 for around $750. My current scope will then go to my working/truck duty AR, a bone stock Bushmaster M4 that can ring 500 yd steel and go 5 for 5 easily.

I would think this set up would fit your bill quite well.

I have no personal experience with the Stag model 6 Super Varmint, but I have heard form several guys they are crazy accurate and are pretty affordable. Model 6 (Super Varminter) | Stag Arms LLC

The Rock River mentioned above has been proven by several members here to be retardedly accurate out of the box. You can get really accurate AR's out of the box these days for well under $1200. What you mostly gain in the higher end Noveske/BCM/DD guns is battle-reliability/durability, all mil-spec parts and the piece of mind knowing you have the highest quality gear when going into harms way. For a range/bench gun, the cheaper alternatives offer a lot of value.

you can build the stripped lower of your choice and purchase a RRA varmint upper or others like it and stay under budget.

I use Spikes lowers and put my money into the upper, optic and trigger group. the target does not know the difference..

Thank you very much for all the answers, I will do a bit more research :) I have no rush and expect gun prices to drop a bit in the incoming months.
