I ordered a set of Weaver two piece bases along with Weaver six hole tactical style rings. I wanted these rings just for more clamping area since they are mounted on a 300WM. Heres the problem. The rings are longer then the bases. So they look kinda stupid. If the rings clamp decent to the base and everything works, I don't really care how it looks. But if the bases are not long enough for the rings to get a good clamp, then I will try and change them. Any thoughts?

+1 on Rob01's advice. Ditch the POS Weaver 2pc bases and snag one of the EGW 1pc bases (available in 0MOA or 20MOA) and run them with quality rings (the Weaver Tactical 6-screw rings you bought are "just ok" by in large, but are hardly great just because they are larger/have more surface contact with your scope tube).

If you do go that route, check around as special orders from OP (the link above) can take...well...FOREVER!! Check with SWFA and see if they have them available and if not, I'd get with EGW direct first on a timeline if you order direct.

Thanks for the amazing help!! Here's the second part of this question. Sig SHR 970 in 300WM. Vortex crossfire II 4x12x44. If one of my rifles would be for distance for now it's this one. If I got the 20 moa base, would I still be able to zero at 100yds?

At least in theory, you SHOULD be able to zero at 100yds if that's your preference...HOWEVER, the best advice I can give you is to get a quality base like the EGW previously mentioned, then scrap the Crossfire II for a better optic/ring combo because right now, even with the 2pc base and poor fitment of your rings-to-base, that optic is still the Achilles heel of your setup if you are really going to be using the rifle for extended ranges on a 300WM. Bargain/budget optics combined with at least somewhat heavy recoiling belted mags chambered in lighter rifles (that base rifle is only ~8lbs) is a recipe for disaster. ;)

We have pretty standard 4 screw rings on all our rifles (issued and in our armory) including IOR 4-28X50 Recons on a 338 Lapua and a 50. If the mounting is correct and true there is no need for any wide ring set-up. The most likely part of your set-up that would cause trouble are the two piece bases.

I mounted it up last night. So far unable to sight in. Either way, i'll post results when I get out there. Also hope to lap the barrel before sight in.

Why would you want to lap a brand new barrel? Those SIG's are usually pretty good.
Don't go looking for things to fix. You could do more harm that good.
