Has Magpul ever demonstrated interest in DBM?

Would there be any interest in Magpul DBM or even PMAGs that are compatible with AICS DBMs?

They have done it, I have shot the white (prototype) but it was a lot of years ago...

If you have a sharp eye and find my one of my POF videos on YouTube you can see the Magpul AICS magazine. Its white laying next to me.

This was like 2007 or something (I would have to check the date) but they lost interest in it shortly after.

That's too bad. :/

I would love to see $15-30 mags instead of the AICS.

As Frank mentioned, we had done the AICS pmag at Magpul. I had designed it, and I've pushed for them to get it into production ever since. I suspect you'll see something along those lines within a year.

As for the DBM taking .308 mags, that will not happen. No action currently in production of which I am aware will take .308 double stack SR-25 mags and the market would be small for those willing to cut on their action only to be limited in the OAL to 2.82".

I would even like to see DBM made to accept the 308 PMAGs.
+1 +1 +1 +1 !!!!
I've now helped two other shooters choose and purchase DBM. Both would have chosen a DBM that accepted Magpul PMags in a heartbeat if they were available. Or a Magpul AICS magazine would basically provide the same benefit. Whoever comes out with the product first will reap the rewards!

Well, as Massoud already stated... The first part will probably never happen being that the current 308 Pmags are double stack. On the second part, only Magpul could make Pmags for AICS so they'd for sure be the first to do it.

I do agree that it would be cool to have polymer Magpul AICS mags that would potentially be a lot cheaper than factory AI's. I'm sure they'd be reliable or Magpul wouldn't produce them so I'd have to buy a few.

Redirt78 - Thinking about it more, that makes sense now. I was thinking about all the actions that would take a double-stack magazine (like my Stiller which takes AWs) but very few people are going to purchase an action like that and put it in a stock which requires an aftermarket DBM to be installed... Time to have everyone call Magpul (very politely) asking for them to make an AICS magazine? I hope they would do an AICS mag as well as a double-stack AW mag replacement.

If they could work out a double stack single feed that fit AICS pattern DBMs that was also very reliable that would be cool. I know feed lips sometimes need to be tweaked on some mags and I don't think you can do that on a Pmag so I don't know if it would work too good for everyone. I know I've never had to mess with the lips on a factory AICS mag and all of mine are used, if they get either one right it should sell pretty good though.

James Gleason from Magpul replied to my email inquiring about this subject. This is what he said:

Thank you for your inquiry. We’re always looking for ways to improve upon existing products and explore the boundaries of new ideas, but are not releasing any information on projects that may or may not be in the works. Please keep an eye on our website for news and updates:

Sounds like there is hope! Given the sheer number of people on this board who use the AICS mags, I'll bet AICS and AICS AW PMags would sell like wildfire, even at a $25-$30 price point.

I got the same reply when I sent an email after starting this thread. Word for word. My guess is that it's just a "leave me alone i'm too important for you" response.

Some of the responses here seem to have been accurate in the sense of "Why would Magpul care?" They already are selling PMAGS faster than they can make them. Seems like their plate is full. Not to say I still wouldn't love to see it happen, but it seems as though someone else may have to step up and do it instead.

I'm not sure just how much that I'd get my hopes up for anything being released in the near future. With Magpul being in the midst of relocating, I can't imagine that theu would be starting manufacturing on a new niche product.
That being said, I'd buy a bunch just to support a company who stuck to their guns on the Colorado ban bs.

I would love to get a hold of some of these when/if they come out.

Doesn't the new Mossberg MVP 7.62 accept 308 pmags?

I understand that but there is an action that accepts them then, that was my point.

There's a thread over on ZombieHunters.org exploring the possible market for 3D printed mags. Wouldn't offer the known reliability of Magpul Pmags, but could provide a way to demonstrate actual market demand (rather than just a bunch of guys saying " I'd buy that " then failing to purchase when the product becomes available) while trying new technology with a less expensive range/practice mag. If people enough people purchase other afterrmarket mags, it'll verify to the Magpul guys that there is a real market for these mags.

Didn't MDT just release for pre order, plastic, AICS mags?

You can buy Ruger Gunsite AICS compatible plastic mags (.308) for $29.90 and use them with a bit of modification.
So no real reason for Magpul AICS

Here are the MDT offerings @ $40 for 10rd .308:

I've never heard of this brand; how are they in terms of quality/reputation?

Tried this with two mags and they work great in a McCrees! Dremel with an oval cutter and your done in 20 minutes. No issues with reliability etc.

No real reason for a lot of things. Still want...

Good to have options though, thanks for informing me of another one.
