Gear needed

Just FYI.....unless you are an active duty or retired military sniper, that is not a good term to use on this site. I have no military experience, but even I have an issue with the small time/local PD guys that call themselves "snipers".....and jump at any chance they can get to label themselves as such.

No offense at all towards you, but you would have received a much more positive response if you had worded your thread differently. This is a great site. Hang around and soak up everything you can.

Pick up major plaster's book, a gallon of astroglide, a fubu jogging suit, a liberator wedge and a 5 ball set of ascending size anal beads and you wil do just fine as a urban sniper

Bad choice of words. Great respect for military, just looking for knowledge.

[QUOT:confused:E=coachdad;2852314]I may have an opportunity to become a sniper with my job and need help with all equipment needed for urban sniper. I am new to the sniper world, but not shooting.
Are you LE? If so, a short list would include items such as Dope Book, Mildot Master, Range Finder, and a decent set of front and rear bags. Once you go to a Fieldcraft school, you will get a better grasp on what you will need/ prefer. Don't go crazy on gear until you go to a school. Hook up with other teams in your area and pick their brains. Schedule training days with established teams. See if your Department will allow you to contact companies for T&E equipment.

My best advice is this: If your Department won't supply you with the right equipment(SPEND THE MONEY), then don't even bother accepting the liability.

I may have an opportunity to become a marksman with my job and need help with all equipment needed for urban sniper. I am new to the marksman world, but not shooting.

Dont take this the wrong way but if you are going to be employed in any way as a marksman, you need training. You may not be new to shooting but this is a different ball game.

If you have to ask what you need, you are simply not qualified. You need training if this is a legit tasking. What good is getting an equipment list if you dont know how to use it?

Are you LE? Does your agency already have snipers/marksmen/whatever they call them? What are they issued? Why not ask them?

If you are to be your agency's first.... PM me and I'll try to help.

I feel bad for this guy, I'm not qualified to answer for his specific question but someone extend an olive branch lol. And everyone likes to feel tacticool every so often. You're just jealous because he's getting paid to do it.

His profile says he works in corrections as a K-9 tracker. I know some some prisions have the guys on the watchtowers with scoped rifles but I would think they would provide everything.

So then the astro glide and anal beads were in fact good recommendations after all.

Hell, I may have "met" coachdad years ago when we requested the Alabama DOC K9 trackers to help us with a search. They run teams of beagles as tracking dogs, we used our patrol dogs as the "catch dogs" and theirs as the "trail dogs" it was kind of like being on a hog hunt running through the woods after a pack of baying dogs.
