Absolutely digging this new Nightforce NXS 2.5-10x42 !

They did a fantastic job:
- Dig the new MilR reticle.
- Outstanding glass.
- Illuminated reticle works extremely well for ultra low light usage.
- Built in cattail for easy magnification changes.
- Power range is perfect for a precision hunting scope.
- Compact and light.

Been out hunting for several days and so I have had ample time to get to test it.
At the range I have tested out to 500 and as expected it tracks correctly and bullet impacts exactly where I want them according to my DOPE.

I am pleasantly surprised at the glass quality.
Edge to edge clarity, contrast and resolution are all very good. It is easy to get behind and use at various power settings and is not finicky at all with regards to eyebox or parallax settings.

The illumination settings can get dim enough in regular mode for low light use and on a moonless night at 20-30 minutes after sunset when a deer or hog becomes invisible at 150 yards to the naked eye I can still take a clean shot by going to the lowest NV settings.

My binocs are a Meopta 10x42 HD and Nikon Monarch 8.5x56 both of which are about equal for low light brightness with the Meopta having better image quality. In extremely low light if I can see it with the binos and switch to the NXS I can still see it and take a clean shot.

This is a damned nice optic.

Excellent news! I was hoping to hear that kind of feed back from field users. Since it came out I've been heavily eye-balling it and after Lowlight gave it good marks I knew Nighforce had done a good thing with the 42mm version. Thanks for the review, that scope is safely at the top of my 'soon to acquire' list.

Wonder how the x32 version compares. Thinking hard about getting one for hunting AR SBR but I think the x42 would look goofy as hell and be too big.

Just got mine about 2 weeks ago and mounted it to my 308 AR. Mine has the MOAR reticle, however. Only range time on it so far working on load development and testing, but have spent l time at home in the early AM & PM evaluating the light gathring capabilities and range estimation. looking forward to putting this through the paces - love it so far

How do you feel about the mil-r for hunting? I had the npr2 in the 32mm version and it was way to fine Imo for hunting and or fast acquisition. Nice setup by the way!

I just shot a coyote with mine today. I think it works fine (mil-R) for hunting. The illumination is great for low light; dusk conditions. My only observed negative this far is a tad of curvature of field observed in the outer edges of the optic. Other than that it's great.
