pulled these out of the basement, blasted them and parkerized them, getting parts together, I am going to make a Light Palma or varmint contour stainless 24 inch 6.5x55 barrel for it and drop it in a boyds stock, I will lap the lugs, true the receiver and drill the receiver for a base.

no idea why but sounds like fun, I have 3 of these remington 1903a3s

30-06. Just going to be my ultility rifle sporting quality iron sights, Joel Russo laminate stock, TAB sling, 3" section of rail on the left for a flashlight if needed for defense, and a stainless steel light palma Shilen 1-10 twist 22" barrel. Hope to make the weight under 8 pounds, maybe 8.5.

My only wish is that I could get a GOOD rear sight without drilling the receiver. Might do a globe front if I don't like a ramp, not a big fan of the standard GI front sight (with or without hood).

Dang, Brother! What don't you have? :D

An 03 in 6.5x55? Freaking awesome. When I finally burn out my barrel that might be the way to go.

Have you heard of Mojo sights? If I was doing a surplus rifle with no scope I would seriously consider Mojos.

Keep us notified, my gunsmith is builing mine as we speak. I went with the GI A3 rear sight and an SMLE Jungle Carbine front sight/flash hider/bayonet lug.

Pretty excited, will order one or two more of these actions, really like the A3 action.

been a while, barrel is being made, I drilled the receivers and ordering the stock, barrel should be here in a few more weeks
also ordering a side safety adjustable trigger, I will forge the bolt this weekend

Hey,

I know it's been a LONG time, but I'm attempting a similar project, building both an 03A3 and an 03A4 in 6.5x55. I'm having some issues getting the cases to feed properly. The cases stack weirdly in the magazine due to the '03's magazine being too wide in the middle for the 6.5x55's extreme taper. Were you able to get around this? Most of the time it's not a problem, but sometimes a case binds at the rear and the bolt passes right over it instead of pushing it into the chamber.

I'm also working on a Garand in 6.5 Swede, but that's another story...

Best,

Steve
