Cerakote on a Defiance action?

I'm dropping off my Defiance Deviant barreled action to get cerakote applied in a few days. I was wondering...I'm going to get the bolt coated, will a coat of finish make things too tight?

Any "Cerakote guidance" out there regarding a Defiance action? I'd appreciate it.

I've NEVER used it on anything but auto pistols.

I have a Defiance action, and to me the bolt fit is too tight to contemplate putting a coating on it.

I might melonite mine before assembling the rifle, but meloniting is not a coating, it's a surface treatment.

It'll be fine but, it will be a little tight at first. Paint the bolt black and it wont be so tight. Greens & Tans are the tightest.

I would suggest that you mask off inside the action if you plan to coat the bolt. If you coat the bolt and the inside of the action it will bind, even black.

I just painted one and used a Teflon paint. I stayed away from painting the inside of the action. I actually painted the bolt too and it would not function until I took off the coating on the back of the action in the radiused area the bolt slides in, then had to buff out some off the underside of the bolt. It was a thin coating but there are some tight tolerances on those parts.

Do yourself a favor and melonite or Ionvond it if you wants it slick as hot snot.

It's as SMOOTH as can be right now, pure stock. Couldn't imagine it any smoother...or that I'd need it any smoother.

I'm not the best bench shooter and my vision isn't as good as it used to be....Yet I'm shooting .3"-.4" groups 90% of the time, with the occasional group in the high teens, low twenties! I'd say the HART/Defiance combo is a WINNER.

It gets slicker :)

Regular cerakote on the bolt will be sticky at first and take several hundred rounds to smooth up. I've been told that the cerakote micro slick is supposed to be where it's at for doing bolts if you want it to glide.

Listen to him! I have a Defiance action that is melonited and it's the slickest and smoothest bolt action I have.

When I mentioned to Defiance that the action will be cerakoted, they were grateful that I told them that so that they could remove a little more metal to make room for the coating. It made a difference.

I emailed Norm about this as well and this was his reply

"We do have tight tolerances, so when cerakoting the bolt you will not want to have a heavy coat on it and do not coat the inside of the receiver where the bolt is making contact with it when closed."

Can someone please post a pic of a melonited defiance deviant action? I can't find a pic of what it looks like. Thank you.

at the very least, Melonite the bolt, lightly Cerakote the interior of the action.
My smith (Bugholes) turned down my bolt on my 1st Deviant prior to cerakote and it worked just fine.
2nd Deviant, cerakoted the action and the bolt and it bound up, this one was not turned down.

You will not find a slicker coating or treatment then Meloniting. My Deviant Alpha 11 is nasty slick with a little TW2500 oil on it.

If just have to have a coating, I vote melonite the bolt only and Micro-slick coat the action. The bake on micro slick is black so as far as aesthetics the bolt and body will closely match.

I also suggest looking into the Short Action Customs LBC mod.

I have a GAP build with cerakoted action and it does bind to some extent. Seems to be loosening up with use.
