Guaging interest in Savage MKII Chassis..

Well I'll scrap the M&P mag idea, I guess I was the only one who thought it'd be neat. Maybe later.

Here is my thought on this as of now. Break it into 3 sections. Buttstock, action inlet and forearm, like the Mcree. I want something sorta similar to the MDT LSS for the middle. The buttstock will also be similar to the Mcree making some sort of adjustable stock, and then be able to have a mount for AR buttstocks as well. With the forearm I am thinking something also like the Mcree, this way you can have tubes or standard forends. Whatever your heart desires!

I drew something up on sketchup last night. Tomorrow I am going to try and download Solidworks, I'll see what I can come up with and try and show you guys what it'll look like and get some feedback!

Interesting idea. I'm not sure how much I'd spend on something like that, depends I suppose on features, and build quality. There does need to be an option out there better than Boyds, and Rhineland. I will say I'm sick to death of AR-15 buttstocks, so count me out of that option.

I'd be interested too if the price was right. 250.00 ish? I would like to replace the original wood stock with something substantial and wouldn't mind an AR stock option like a PRS. Also the ability to mount a bi-pod at the right distance without a quad rail type extension.

An AICS Chassis is what I would be looking for. It is 100% ergonimic. The V block is a no brainer, consiering that the MK II is a pain in the butt to pillar bed due to the actioin bosses. Let me know! I agree with Hammertime....$250.00 to $300.00.

I for one, can tell you that I am extremely interested in this project. I am wanting to do something with my TR really bad, and this would be the ticket for that rifle.

Make it happen, I will be happy to do a full review for you, and I will be your first buyer should the price be in the right ballpark when it is said and done!!

Also, I would be using it against you (in a friendly manner) in the Smiley competitions!! LOL

Thank you for the kind words z71rat, I am still figuring out Solidworks, but I do have somewhat of a model for the mid section of the chassis.

As for the smiley comps, my new CZ 455 is going to do well I hope. I have the entire thing apart right now to get coated. Hope it is ready in time!

Is there anything at all that I can do to help you?? I doubt there is, but I thought I would put it out there anyways...

Not at the moment, just need ideas from everyone. I have found the interest, I would really love to see this thing become a reality.

i plan on doing something like this but in a non bullpup configuration

im going to try the sheet metal route. looking for a company that does plasma cutting. im able to draw out the shapes/design through SolidWorks. i also have a brake press that can bend sheet metal if the plasma cutting company cant bend it for me

i also have a retired handyman who has a mill that can cut out the pistol grip area for $30 hour.

That is a pretty cool design! Something like the DTA Covertn would be pretty cool eventually! But know I'll be sticking with the designs mentioned here already. Thanks!

i was looking up doing a .22LR DTA conversion and they sell the DTA chassis for like $300 just for the 2 piece plastic clamshell.
it doesnt come the receiver/front handguard piece.

Alright so out of my own personal needs working with my CZ 455 I have come up with this...

It's a "mini-chassis" much like what Manners sells in their stock. I'm not planning on selling just this. I am planning this for my own personal uses.

But as I was designing it, I got to thinking it would be very simple to make this the middle part of an AICS or maybe a Mcree. Just wanted to let you guys know that I haven't forgotten about this. This could also pretty easily be designed for a Savage MKII.

Ben

you should do a video tutorial on this. im still learning solidworks.

Haha, I wish I knew what I was doing, there is still so much that I don't understand. I have a book on learning it, but haven't cracked it open yet. All I have learned is by just playing around with it. I think about it from a machining standpoint and it seems to help. Not sure if that is correct but it helps me visualize things!
