I've come across this stuff on comms antennas but never seen it used quite like this

It's 2 - 2.5 kgs, so it weighs more than most 'conventional' tripods with a hog saddle.

Neat tubing, but a lot of additional complexity in the head to accomodate legs that don't lengthen/shorten.

Agreed.

The general purpose machine gun video looked a little contrived too. Unless the legs can be extended you're going to be stuck with few options regarding position of aim / seating position etc

That said, a bespoke system could probably be very useful if 'cut to length' of the individual user
