Can a R700 ADL Varmint be used with an AICS 1.5 system? Its the blind box version, with a solid bottom stock.. But when replacing the stock with the AICS1.5, will it work with the DBM system?

Yes, it will work just fine. The AICS has the dbm built in. You simply bolt the barreled action in. You won't be using the blind magazine parts from the ADL at all.

Awesome! I wasnt sure if the action or bolt might have been milled differently from the hinged models.. Sounds like a good way to save myself $350, since the local Cabelas has them as a special model for $450. :)
thanks!

With that said, you would have to buy bdl bottom metal, or a bottom metal built for a magazine, so that 350 may or may not be worth it.

Wait.. So I would still have to buy the bottom metal for use with the AICS? Thats not part of the chassis? Because the R700 models with the hinged floorplate are supposed to be drop-in (no bottom metal required), right? I thought the only difference was a solid bottom stock on the ADL?

You do not need to buy a bottom metal for an AICS. You would only need a bottom metal if you were to buy a conventional style stock such as HS Precision, McMillan, etc.

If you are getting the chassis you will ditch the whole factory magazine system and swap to the aics magazines. You will have no issues going this route.

The Description for the AICS says "No separate bottom metal is required because it’s already precision machined into the aluminum chassis." , and makes no mention of models excluded..

Exactly what rifle are you planning on putting into an AICS?

Dude you are going I confuse the poor man. All model 700 receivers are the same. Adl, bdl, cdl, sps, etc is just a trim package.

Any R700 action will work perfectly with the AICS chassis. Even the older Remington 78 (a R700 plain jane from the past) will work and the rifle will function with AICS mags. You DO NOT need to buy anything else bottom metal wise to make it work. Buying the least expensive R700 out there is the best way to go unless you can find an older used R700 that may have the old style trigger with it. You will really need to ditch the new style trigger if you go the Cabela's route.

If he's buying short action and tries to drop it into a long action chassis by mistake, he'll have just a slight problem...

LOL.. No, I have the short vs long action issue sorted out already.. Just not clear on the need for bottom metal if I used the ADL model.. Consensus seems to say that NO, I do NOT need to buy bottom metal to fit the ADL into the chassis.. Please, correct me if I have that wrong.. :)

One further point of clarification, if you please. Any Short Action model will fit any Short Action AICS, correct? They are not caliber specific?

The chassis works as the botton metal yes that is correct. Like I said earlier. It's all the same diameter.

As cmh2007 stated, all 700 short actions are the same and will fit. The short action that won't fit is the model 7. It looks like a 700 but it is shorter in length. So if someone offers you a smoking deal on one, pass because it won't work in an AICS. The magazines are caliber specific. The have magazines for the .308 family of cartridges and they have ones for the .223.
