I am looking for the right scope for this rifle. Right now it has a Burris XTR 1.5X-6X. I want to take this rifle to the max range of what the 5.56 can do. It is my understanding that that is about 700 yards. I load a 70 gr Berger VLD, it has about the same BC as a 77 gr Match King, but more velocity. I will use this rifle on coyotes and the target range. I run a white oak armament 1/8" twist bbl. It is heavy and fluted under the Yankee hill machine free float tube. I am going to get the bbl bead blasted soon.

I am thinking this is the scope for me: XTR Scopes - rifle scopes, handgun scopes, hunting scopes by Burris Optics

What ells is available for scopes? I want a scope that is as durable as can be, plus high quality. I don't want to spend more than $1000
Here is my rifle:

Bushnell Elite 4200 Riflescopes, Tactical, Illuminated Reticle, Hunting Scope

I'm a big fan of Bushnell Elite Tactical scopes in the sub $1k price range.

Check out the BUSET312FG 3-12x44 FFP G2DMR reticle.
There's also the BUSET624FG, 6-24x50 FFP G2DMR, if you don't think 12x is enough (it probably is, but I'm a magnification whore).

The price in the cart is a good bit lower than the advertised price on the web page, and Scott is a great guy to buy from.

For a DMR scope, I really like the SWFA SS 3-15x42. The Weaver 3-15x50 and 4-20x50 are great too. The Bushnell 3-12x with G2 reticle mentioned above would be a nice setup. The Vortex PST 2.5-10x32 FFP is a nice size and mag range on an AR, IMO. If more mag is wanted, the 4-16x Vortex offerings are decent too. For under $1k any one of these are great and right at home on a DMR.

What do folks think of the Burris XTR scopes? Is anyone running the 3x-12x or the 4x-16x? Lets see pics.

Looking for the right optic for my ~DMR AR-15

I've had the semi-'correct' leupold on my Mk12 since 05 and it has served me well. I was looking on Amazon last night and the current non-illume version comes in under a grand with a TMR. Of course you're getting cross reticle/turret units but that may not be an issue for you. I'm gonna get new turrets for mine 'someday'. I think it's the MR/T 2.8-8x36 or something. The short turrets are cool too. I like them on mine and If I had one gripe about the Razor, it would be the Freedom Tower sized turrets.

Nikon AR223, can't remember the model number but I got it for my bushmaster predator (about)$550. Built in bullet drop reticle. It is super clear, can see the cross hairs and range dots easy and it works real well! If you want pics of it mounted message me, I love this scope!!!

I am looking real hard at this scope now: Vortex Optics - Viper PST 4-16x50 EBR-1<br />(MOA)
I have read that this scope is not as good as others for shooting at dusk. Why is this? What is it in a scope that makes it "gather light" in low light?
I have read that the 50mm objective is a bit big for an AR. Why do people say this?

I can't talk to the low light shooting, but I had a 6-24x PST on my precision AR and it looked and worked fine. Its not something I would want to hump across the kyber pass, but it was a nice combo for long range shooting.

edit: get the FFP version and MRAD. You'll thank me later. Friends don't let friends shoot MOA.

Why MRAD over MOA? I thought that MOA was the standard? I am torn on the FFP vs SFP. I like how the object gets bigger and the reticle stays the same size on my current scope. It helps me to precisely target the black dot on the center of the 2" orange dot I shoot at. I know that FFP is nice for judging hold overs and wind at any power.

I wound up going with a Vortex Viper PST 4x-16x 50mm. FFP and MOA. It will be here Friday and I am super stocked!

Congrats, let us know how it works for you. That scopes on my list except in Mil.
