JDS Quickmeasure???

Man, I figured someone on the hide would've tried one of these at some point! I'm really curious about this measure. It kinda seems like that for as long as its been around, if it worked any better than anything else it would have more of a following.

LTRDavid had a video on here a few years ago. I believe he used one. However....I have tried most of the measures out there and they all have problems with long coarse powder granules. .2 grain deviation is average. If you want better, then you'll have to use a scale, measure light and trickle up. JMHO

I (finally) took interest in my daughter's Ipad and since there is very little info out there on the Quick Measure I thought what the heck, I'll shoot a quick video and attempt to upload it. No problem! Pretty cool, but excuse the poor lighting, dirty garage, and the Chinook in the background.

Here's the results from weighing 20 charges of IMR4831 (long cut powder), RL15 (medium cut powder), and Ramshot Hunter (ball powder).

Thanks for the post! It doesn't seem to throw the long grained, extruded stuff any better than Harrell's. I guess their is no way around weighing...

There is no magic with the long grained powders but I have seen a lot worse from other throwers. For my use its acceptable. That said, I don't use long grain powders anymore if I can help it. In my eyes the beauty of Quick Measure is in its speed, convenience, portability, and accuracy with the shorter stuff and ball powders.

Thought I would chime in here,

I have a Dillon 550B and a Rock Chucker, been using the Rock Chucker for 20+ years for reloading precision rifle Ammo.
About 4 months ago I decided to look into loading 308 on my progressive press, to make a long story short I tried everything to get a conventional powder measure to drop IMR4064 within .0002 of a grain.
After many frustrating hours of trying including making a custom powder funnel and weighing each load on my RCBS Charge master and dumping it into the case I gave up.
Then I heard from a friend about Tim Johnson, JDS and his quick charge dispenser, I was skeptical so I did my research including lengthy conversations on the phone with Tim, I was convinced after talking to him to give it whirl.
I purchased his setup for a Dillon 550B progressive press, he also sells it as a stand alone, I received it in the mail two days later, after 15 minutes of setup I started to play at seeing how consistent it threw powder charges.
I'm impressed, I threw 30 42.5 charges of IMR4064 and weighed each one on my charge master, the results are as follows.

8 charges 42.5 grains, 12 charges 42.4 grains, 5 charges at 42.7 grains, 3 at 42.3 grains and 2 at 42.3 grains

I'm not related to Tim in any way I'm posting because this thing works, if you shoot stick type powders and want to speed up your process, I highly recommend this powder measure, it frigging works.

Quick Measure - The Accurate Powder Measure

That's a half grain spread.....

A lee powder dispenser for 25$ will do that.

After 46 years of reloading, last year I switched to the RCBS Chargemaster Combo and wish I had bought one much earlier. The RCBS Chargemaster doesn't care about powder grain size and operates by weight of charge.

My first was a Lee and I still use it the most. Very fast, accurate, and always w/in 1 tenth of a grain up to about 50 grains and w/in 2 tenths to 95 or so. Which makes it super easy to trickle the last skoosh.

I use (in order) a Harrel's custom 90, omega trickler, and an A &D FX120i force restoration balance to weigh charges. I hold a .02gn tolerance, and routinely get SD's under 5. I tried many things to avoid doing all this , but in the end, if you shoot LR and need consistent MV's, there's no way around it.
The A&D is a awesome piece of equipment at a a reasonable price point for those types of balances. It will eat your Denver Instruments MX123's lunch. It's a far superior balance.
