winchester lrg rifle primer problems

Been a few write-ups here about them a while back. If I recall correctly, some lot #'s were even posted. Winchester was even taking them back and compensating somehow. If I can find the thread I'll paste a link.

I purchased 300 LR Magnum primers and got a pin hole blow out on the second round. Other than a face full of crap and a burn mark on the bolt face, all was ok. I never bothered contacting Winchester. No more Win primers for me unless I hear about some major QC changes.

Could be a bad lot. I have loaded several hundred rounds with wlr and have not had any problems.

I contacted Winchester,Talked to a guy named Donny. He said ther was a bad lot in 2009.LOT #DHL766G.They havent had problems since.
I think the primer pockets on the link are cut out to much

Donny took care of me on mine. They sent me a check for I think it was 40 bucks. The guy at Graf's called bull shit and said I was loading hot. Sorry a min load of varget causing blow outs like that isnt a hot load.

Be careful with them, I have some light pitting on my bolt caused by these blow outs, but it hasnt affected anything else so I havent messed with getting a new bolt.

Going from memory, I was going to say somewhere '08-'09-ish I recall something about a bad lot.
My loads must've been pretty soft, because I don't recall any of the previously mentioned problems, and I've used WLR for years.
That said, last summer load I did some 'hot' load development (114*+ out here in the desert) and had no pierced primers. They squished flat as a bug:p but of course they all do that under the right conditions

Never had any problems with Winchester primers. Have with Fed. and CCI. Guess it just goes to show anything can fail .....

I never had problems with Win Primers, they are my favorite. I use them pretty much in all my rifles including my Garand, M1A and ARs, zero problems.

I had this exact thing happen with win primers and will not ever use them again. Fairly light load of 4895 and win brass. It pitted the hell out of my new bolt less than 10 rounds on the rifle. I sent the brass that blew back to winchester along with a couple loaded rounds. I better get more than $40 back because I dont plan on using win brass or primers anymore.

I sent around 600 primers back which was all I had left and they sent me $40 which would replace the entire 1000. Im sure if you sent them brass and primers they will compensate you accordingly. I was happy with the 40 bucks(maybe it was 50, cant remember, but it covered the cost of a new 1000 LR primers), but others might want more, I cant comment on anybody else's case.

Im not real worried about the primers or brass but I am pretty upset about the damage to my rifle. I returned the primers I had left to my dealer. I will stick will lapua brass and federal or cci primers from now on. I also have had problems with win primers being loose in the pockets.
