They both use FLIR sensors, although the RS is going to be using a newer type of sensor. The MSRP figures that are out on the RS series are pretty close to the MSRPs on the Thor line if comparing similar specs. No, I don't think the market for the Thor's prices are going to crap the bed, at least I hope not- I just picked up the 2X 60hz Thor three weeks ago. Bottom line- are you getting a good deal on the Thor? If so, are you planning on using it in the next 6 months that it will take for the RS series to be on shelves? If so, what value do you assign to getting to use it for the next 6 months?

Friends don't let friends use ATN..... Lol

Like mentioned above. If you get a good deal then yea but the new flir has newer sensors and technology. PLUS! It says flir on the side of it.

The President of Tula Ammo from Russia came by at the Shot Show with some shady looking characters and wanted me to show him the new FLIR RS, I told him that I was not allowed to discuss it with him since it is an ITAR item and he is not a US Citizen.

I asked him why he doesn't just get the ATN, he replied that he does not want junk....he wants the best.

That is funny!! I didn't see you at the FLIR booth SkyPup, what booth were ya working?

I was there the whole time, ate dinner with the FLIR staff, in fact even Mr. "LowLight" himself came by to chat!

    What booth were you at?

Guess I missed ya while you were eating. I was there with Ident Marking, I spent half the week with work and the other half taking my girl around.

Believe it or not, he doesn't give a hoot about the thermal imager or thermal imaging capability -- that "interest" right there is the smoke screen. There's something else inside the middle to upper tier FLIR devices that the ATN devices don't have, which is what principally sets them apart and which is what the Russians want.

Dah! In Russia you don't look through thermal scope, thermal scope look through you!

Har-de-har-har! Putin isn't interested in looking at your PJs or pee-pee.

Hint: has nothing to do with thermal sensing or detection ... and is pursuit of a lowest common denominator that might, just might, slip under the radar at the same time. Any compliance officer with B.E. Meyers, Eotech Insight L3, FLIR, DRS, Vectronix, or Exelis would know.

I like this game! It's hard for a guy like me with a low IQ though. I would guess they would just like to know our capabilities, but then they could always use youtube for that.

Don't sweat it. It's not about your IQ. You don't know because it is nothing you have to worry about. Stow it away, and one day you'll see or read something in the news and it will give you the insight to connect the dots, and you'll say, "hey, I know something about that!"

I have a Thor 640 5X and I don't see an advantage the Flir R other than the longer warranty and the mounting system hopefully is better than the Thor.
I had to turn mine around to make it work on my LMT, the scope it's self has been flawless.
