Just got a Manners T6A & now need Bolt Upgrades?

Just got a Manners T6A w/ a mini chassis (in the midnight mold in finish) for my Remington 700 AAC-SD. The bolt will not fully close because the stock is designed for a strait bolt handle and the bolt (which is stock) is slightly swept back. Manners is willing to inlet the stock for the bolt but I was thinking that this may be a good time to upgrade the bolt. On the other hand, after getting the stock I don’t have $500 laying around for a bolt.

I have some questions concerning a bolt upgrade. Are there accuracy improvements resulting from a trued up bolt? Is fitting up a bolt something that most gunsmiths can do or should I send the barreled action in to gunsmith that has a good reputation for this kind of work? Does anyone have any recommendations on someone in western PA that can do this?,

Of course, the other option is to grind down the stock myself so that the bolt can fully close. It does not look like it would require much, and the stock has the molded in colors. I would call Manners to get details, but this looks like it would be fairly easy. The hardest part about doing this would be grinding down a stock that I just spent a grand on.

So, what are the benefits to upgrading the bolt? I know that I already have a gun that will outshoot me. Is the bolt upgrade a nice-to-have or a got-to have?

All preference... Try and action with a straight bolt first and see if you like it. A fitted bolt might feel better but be careful that you dont go too tight and compromise field performance i.ei tight tolerances/dirt etc

If you send your rifle to Long Rifles they can tig weld a straight handle on for around $100 bucks, their turn around is really quick too. That way you don't have to mess with fitting a new bolt.

Im guessing you got this stock from someone and did not order it from Manners? Mill/dremel out the stock so the handle fits. get some black paint and use a Q-tip to color in where you cut into the stock. Easy. Bolt is nice to have but not a must have. If your set on a new bolt wait until you get the gun re-barreled and trued by a reputable smith

Or.....just realize that the rifle is tool that's meant to be used, not admired like a dining room table centerpiece. Spend 5 min with a dremel and fix the problem, rather than being afraid it's not going to look minty fresh and pristine.

Hi Joe, Not sure if you ordered it from us or not, but it don't matter. We will get you fixed up at no charge, it will come back finished and perfect. Just let me know. Thank you

Upgrading the bolt is not a drop-in part. It requires headspacing and a smith willing and able. If you're set on a new bolt, wait until you rebarrel as mentioned above.
Your best option is to send it back to Manners - which Tom has already said they'd take care of it for you....or take a Dremel or sand paper and DIY.

Tom,

I hope that my post did not make it seam that you were not willing to fix it - I guess that what I put in the subject line may have seemed as if that were the case. When I talked to you two weeks ago you were extremely helpful. Likewise, earlier in the week I spoke with someone at you office, they explained that if my barreled action is not fitting properly, that I could send it in and that it would be made right at no charge to me. Your service has been top notch!

I was asking the question because I was trying to determine my best path forward - fix the stock or if I needed a bolt. If it is a minor issue of fitting, I can certainly get out a dremel & some emery cloth. I just did not want to cut in on a stock not knowing if I could do so without damaging it. On the other hand, if it is not necessary to mail the stock in, I would rather just do it myself at home. Looks like I need to do some minor dressing on the stock & leave the bolt alone.

Tom, my apologies if the initial post was misleading - my experience w/ Manners has been 100%!

I have seen you post around the Hide.....the above is one of the main reasons both my custom guns have Manners stocks on them.

Props!
