Hey guys, more of a reader here rather than poster but needing some help. I bought a Kimber Ultra Carry couple weeks ago and after shooting it this weekend I broke it down to clean. Found out real quick it had some more tedious steps to it than the regular 1911's I'm used to.

Anyway I have to gun back together but I absolutely can not get the slide stop plunger back in place. I can get it to slide 3/4 of the way through but it won't click in that last step. It's almost as if the grove is not big enough for the head of that plunger to fit through. I've spent 3 hours working on this so far and frustrated enough that I'm planning on going up to the gun store tomorrow for help. Anyone else ever had this problem?

Not sure what you mean by backwards. This is what I'm referring to. It won't go in any further than that

Since you seem to be new to 1911's:
Do you have the slide stop pin through the barrel link? When inserting the slide stop into the frame you have make sure the link is dropped down and lined up.

Once the slide stop goes in to the plunger tube, then it takes a little finnese; you push in and a little down. Be careful as this is where the "idiot mark" comes from, if you slip. You can use a piece of stiff plastic to push the plunger in as you push the slide stop in. I'm sure there are many YouTube videos.

Looking at the picture you just posted, it looks like you do not have the slide stop in the barrel link.

I have a desert eagle 1911 and I've done it many times with that so I'm not new to this. But to answer your question yes, the barrel link is lined up. The plunger is fitting through the hole but the slide stop is not popping into place. I can tell where the slide stop is supposed to fit in between the safety pin and the small groove on the slide. It must be a very very tight fit cause I can't get it in place.

Well a slide stop plunger is the 2 small plungers that are connected with a dogleg spring that acts upon the slide stop and thumb safety.
What you are showing is the slide stop. The above post probably has it right, the link is not aligned. Make sure the crescent cut in the slide is aligned with the slide stop, it may be a little finicky.

Oh ok forgive my ignorance for that. Yes I know it's supposed to be aligned I was just trying to take a picture with one hand while holding the tension with the other lol. That's whats causing the most difficulty for me too is holding the tension back. You don't have to do that with my other 1911.

Sometimes the plunger just gets stuck behind the slide stop. Make sure it's being cammed out of the way by the slide stop - there should be an angled ramp on the rear portion of the slide stop (facing the slide) that pushes the plunger back into the tube.

No offense, but what's with the attitude?

You vaguely described you're situation and posted one crappy picture.... and we're doing out best to figure out what's going on from that.
You're the one that's been struggling with it for three hours....... not us. Go read the manual.

Woah man I wasn't being sarcastic. My bad, i was saying forgive me being ignorant for calling the part by the wrong name.

When I have a difficult to install Slide Stop, I sometimes use a small screw driver to push the plunger in so that the Slide Stop tab can get past that hang up. Then I align the notch in the Slide with the Slide Stop tab and it will go right in.

Thanks Shtr I dunno why I haven't thought of that yet but I'll sure give it a try!

try youtube

as others stated looks like the slide stop wasn't aligned right to start with. I do have an ultra and yes they are alittle more harder to break down and put together but after a few times it's nothing.

Yea it knew that. I was just trying to take a picture and hold the tension in other Hand at the same time.

Thanks for all the help guys. I fixed it, the problem was I was trying to Insert the slide stop over the safety pin when it had to be inserted under the pin the pushed upwards

The progression of the 'Hide has advanced leaps and bounds. In the past, the answer (oft repeated) would have been:

"use a bigger hammer".

For that, consider yourself both lucky, and further educated now. Congratulations everyone, we have advanced. :D
