Just acquired an m40. Brand new unfired never had a scope mounted. Trying to keep the budget around $2500 I've been looking at us optics and I've always been a fan of leupold. I'll be shooting out to 600 m. Anybody have any suggestions. What kind of rings are everybody using. I've always used tps. But looking for something a little more solid Thanks in advance

Just curious...what makes that rifle an M40? On point...what is the intended use of your "M40"?

Nevermind...its an M40 because that is what Rooney calls it. Good luck with it.

Put a Barska on it, that way when it shoots 5" groups you can blame it on the scope...

In all seriousness, pull a scope off another rifle and shoot this one, you may need to save the $2500 to get this rifle worked on so it shoots. Tactical Rifles (Rooney) reputation is pretty bleek, not many have had good luck with them.

TT, if you're in the market for a USO. I have a brand new LR17 w/Erek GenII XR reticle I could get you for a lot under your budget. Send me a pm if you're interested

I'm sure I'll still be under your budget including a set of Seekins rings

You want warm and fuzzy...get a dog! Topical, informative and accurate advice? Put on your bigboy pants and settle in.

I've got my big boy pants on. Just busting balls like everyone else. I got the rifle in a trade for an over and under I won in a fundraiser raffle with a ticket I paid $20 for So technically I paid $20 for it. The guy I got it from bought two rifles and hadn't shot this one yet. So. Worse case scenario. I have to put some money in it. Finish looks good. Cups are good triggers great. I'm sure there are better out there. Okay Rooney is a douche who drinks tea and scones for breakfast. Screw em. I'll probably never deal with him. I started hitting the forum up again two days after I got it. If I had seen all of this I would've had the thing checked out before hand. Either way I'll shoot this more than a fancy shotgun, I was actually hoping to win the kimber that was part of the raffle. Either way it's in the past , I'm looking towards the future. Maybe the future is that thing getting sent to bartlein for a new barrel. I'll find out when I get there. Until than. Let's talk scopes. Not a hack builder that everyone on this forum seems to hate.

Look at the Nightforce ATACR or a used Steiner 5-25, that is the direction I would go personally. As for rings I really like the Spuhr line or Badgers.

Are the vortex optics good for the money. I've never seen them

Or F1 if you want FFP. You said you like Leupold, I'm about to get a Leupold MK-6 3-18, but that is with the LE discount. Without the discount, I would go with the F1

Vortex PST FFP scopes are good for the money but if it were me I'd spend the money on a NightForce. The NXS line (SFP) with zero stop and high speed turrets is well below your limit
