All right. So I thought I have the perfect set up for hunting, a lite weight 300 win mag in a Weatherby platform. It is the Ultralight. My problem is that the barrel is not thick enough to thread 1/2-28. I have ordered a new 30p-1 and where, legal I would like to use this.

So I am back to the drawing board. I need to be in the $1500 dollar range so this will not be a custom build. I would like a 300 win mag and as light as possible with a barrel large enough to thread.

what are some ideas or thoughts.

My thought would be if I'm trying to make a nice hunting rifle I wouldn't want to add another 9" to a 26" barrel. If you're adamant about using the can I would go way shorter on the barrel which unless you hate your suppressor also means stepping down from a magnum.

If I were you I'd go completely back to the beginning and look at what I will be hunting and what do I NEED. Also whether suppressors are legal in all the states you will hunt in should be a consideration if you set up a rifle around it. I've personally never seen an advantage for hunting with a suppressor unless it's something high volume, chances are anything with a 300WM isn't going to be.

I should have given a little more information. I have about 2k worth of reloading stuff for the 300 Winchester magnum. I definitely want to stay with the 300 win mag.

The advantage to shooting the thing suppressed is to reduce the recoil and the sound noise. I have a range 1000 yards away. So I will be shooting this at the range suppressed. I practice a lot with my hunting guns and various ranges.
