Rifle Scopes Will I need an extended scope mount?

I'm looking at the new US Optics SR-4C - 1-4 scope for my JP ar. I have the ACE-ARFX stock. !'m 5'11". Will I need an extended scope mount? I will most likely go with Larue or JP mounts.

Thanks for your help.

Charles

I have three Bobro mounts, two normal and one extended. On both the normal mounts, the mount is one slot back from its forwardmost position. The extended mount is 4 slots back. The normal mounts have a USO 1.5-6 and a Vortex 1-4. The extended mount is on a SS fixed 20X.

I'm 5'9" with an average to long neck, and almost all my shooting is prone. The extended mount will give you more flexibility on the chance you need the extra reach, but I don't need it myself.

BTW, I've been casually checking the return to zero capability of the Bobro mounts. I remove the scopes for cleaning, and I've yet to have to re-zero one.

I just looked at the USO site, didn't see a 1-4x listed. Honestly, I like a 1-6x for a .223/55.6. Is the 1-4x much smaller than the 1-6x? If not, consider a 1-6x.

Yes, you will need a longer mount for the JP, do you need the QD feature?

Also consider a Vortex. Same money give or take a few bucks, AND you could have the Vortex next day, not 2-3 months later.

This is what I did, not that KAC mounts are cheap, you get the idea. Good luck.

Yes you will need to use a cantilever style mount for proper eye relief with that rifle. I would check out American Defense Manufacturing Recon model $180, or Alamo Four Star 30MM mount $280.

Thanks Wes, I'll be ordering a SR-4C next week. Will the reticle be available in green? Is the MIL the only reticle offered?

Overall I like the ADM mounts with 2 caveats;

The adjustment for the QR tension is too coarse. I owned 2 of these mounts and mounted them each on several rifles, and by the time I got the screw tension set for the particular rifle, one of the clamps was just a little too tight to remove without some sort of prying tool. Loosening the adjustment one increment (60 degrees, or one flat on the hex head) made the clamp a little too light for my liking. Until they modify the design to use 12 point screws in that location, they will never be truly QR to my mind.

Mounting a scope is a PITA with the vertically split rings. I suspect the purpose of the design is to lower cost as there is far less waste of material and machining, and the mounts are modular (you could order 34mm rings to use with an existing base instead of replacing the entire 30mm mount). If a scope is removed from the mount, it is going to lose its zero unless every part is used in the same location and installed in the same order with the exact same tightening sequence and torque, too.

ADM equipment is very well made right here in the US and they are very inexpensive considering how many nicely machined and finished parts there are, but I've owned Bobro too, and I'd spend the extra $$$ and get a Bobro if I were looking for another one.

Hey Charles,

At the moment the mil scale reticle with red is all we are offering with the SR-4C.

Thank all of you for your input. I researched each mount that was suggested. Since my mount will be used with a U.S Optic SR-4C, I purchased one of Wes Norris' suggestions - Alamo Four Star. It arrived this morning. I mounted it (without scope) in a few seconds and finger tighten. This mount is as advertised! I am very pleased.

Thanks Again,
Charles
