Seems to be some decent info on the 5-20 ultra short but not much on the 3-20....anyone know when it will be available or is it an ongoing project like the 1-8 PMII?

I'm speculating but my guess is last years 3-20 US had some problems so it was modified to this years 5-20 US. Hopefully S&B will loose the single turn feature altogether and bring out a low profile DT or TT knob to take advantage of the 40 mils rumored to be available in the scope.

Haven't heard anything about a 5-25 US???

Hopefully mid year 2014 we'll see a few 2013 unicorns.

Isn't the new one coming out 5-20x50 ultra short? I didn't even know there was a 3-20 ultra short in the works. Maybe you have that confused with the regular length 3-20x50.

there is both a 3-20 and 5-20 Ultra Short coming from S&B......

from BigJimFish------
"Before leaving S&B I should also mention that they have a new 3-20x50 PMII Ultra Short. This features lower turrets that have a zero stop and turn indicator but no lock. You will be pleased to know that unlike last years 5-20x50 (strangely still offered) this optic is reasonably comfortable to be behind. The eyebox is useable. The price is $4,369. I have no idea why they picked that strange number given how many 99’s they have in the list but there you go. I’m beginning to think S&B might be using the dart board approach to pricing anyway. Actually, prices that look more, shall we say optimistic, seem to be cropping up with more frequency every year."

In the picture attached from left to right: 3-20x50 Ultra Short on both sides.

In the picture attached from left to right: 3-20x50 Ultra Short, 3-20x50 regular, 5-25x50 ultra short. It appears to be the same size as its ultra short brother....

Funk,

1) To my knowledge, there is no 5-25x Ultra Short....only the 5-20x Ultra Short. Yes, it is a bit perplexing to have this one while you have a 3-20x with supposedly better eyebox

2) If you zoom in, it appears that the first and third scope pictured are both marked 3-20x50mm.

3) Since we're at it, the 3-20x50 in the middle isn't exactly "regular"; it is for the German armed forces (Bundeswehr), and unlike all the models commercially available to us, it does NOT feature the "MTC" turrets

Yes, the two outside scopes in the pic are the same: 3-20x50 PMII Ultra Short.

Apparantly this scope was developed in response to a military request for a scope that is dimensionally smaller than the 3-20 PMII but with a lower bottom end magnification than the 5-20 PMII Ultra Short offered.

you guys are right when you zoom in its clearly 3-20 on both the left and right scopes. so does this mean we will only be seeing the 5-20 in ultra short for the civilian market since the 3-20 was for a military request?
thanks

Not necessarily...the 4-16x42 was built to meet military requirements (as is my understanding) and it is commercially available.

Might want to check out the price on the new 3-20 ultra short before you get all excited about it. According to bigjimfish on his shot show thread its priced at $4369.

Has any news come out if and when the 3-20 Ultra Short will become commercially available?
