Curious, how much free play does your bolt have prior to cocking the striker? Any model, any round count, any caliber.... I'm curious if one fits tighter than another, even without the tension of the firing pin assembly being cocked.

The play I'm referring to is the vertical and horiztal movement.

Well, in my case a Badger M2008 and a bighorn TL2... but any action to see if it's a normal function by design.

    Umm, it varies.

I have a Rem 700, trued by a BR smith. It has a loose bolt, several thousands between bolt diameter and action inside diameter. It is a 1/2 MOA gun.

I have another 700, trued, with an oversize PTG bolt, lapped to fit the action. It is a 1/2 MOA gun.

I have a Defiance Mutant. It is a 1/2 MOA gun.

I have a Hall actioned single shot. It has a very well fit bolt. It is a 1/2 MOA gun, on a bad day.

I have a Sako TRG-22. It has lots of clearance in the bolt. It is a 1/2 MOA gun.

What my gunsmith told me, and I believe him, is if the action is trued, barrelled and chambered correctly, then a little bolt slop is not going to make a difference.

If you want no slop, then get a BAT action. But, if you shoot that like a tactical rifle on the ground, and get it dirty and dusty, those really tight tolerances might bite you when you get dirt/grit into the action.

    Just my opinion.

Best example would be my savage 10TR . The bolt is uber lose and wobbles(the heavy bolt knob doesnt help) but the rifle shoot 1/2 from factory with my reloads.

After speaking with another badger m2008 owner and taking a few measurements, I believe I have a worn part in my bolt assembly. Hence the reason why this question has come about. I'm calling BO tomorrow to confirm. Thanks for the feedback guys.

*** Spoke with Marty, everything seems to be in fine working order!I assumed that the cocking piece was worn but the nominal .025" of extra play is nothing to be worried about.
