POF 308 Pmag problems

I just bought a POF 308 with a serial number starting with 09-xxxx. The PMAG 20 LR/SR GEN M3 are very rough going in. I remember reading somewhere that if your serial number starts with a 12-xxx and later that you need the Gen 2. Anyone else have a problem like this or know where I can get some Gen 2 mags? I do have a DPMS metal mag that seems to work fine.

ALL of the .308/7.62/LR/SR PMAGs will work in ALL POF P-308 rifles regardless of which generation mags you've got or when your rifle was made. The mag compatibility issues are with the 5.56/.223 mags because of how Magpul changed the stupid mag bodies to prevent over-insertion of the mags past the mag catch. The 2013 and newer P-415 lowers have a cut at the back of the mag well to allow the Gen 3 5.56/.223 PMAGs to seat properly. Older P-415 lowers (i.e. - any serial beginning 12-**** or earlier) will not allow the Gen 3 PMAGs to seat properly with out modifying either the lower receiver (not the best of ideas) or the shelf on the Gen 3 PMAGs.

I have a P-308 that's serial 09-01*** that has flawlessly run all the 7.62 PMAGs around, including most recently the 20 LR/SR M3s and 10 LR/SR M3s (hopefully...soon the 25 LR/SR mags too)!! ;)

Thanks for your reaponse. The LR M3 mags are a fight to get out. I guess I need to sand them down.

I've got M2 and M3 Pmags and haven't had a single issue running them in my P308.

Before you go off sanding anything down, you might just try running them for a while and see if they'll loosen up enough to drop free/insert more smoothly. Alternatively, try inserting/removing the mags (EMPTY of course) in the rifle at home for a while and see if that helps work them loose any at all.

if it is a used gun just maybe the release was taken out an put back in to tight

No Problems with my 10-XXXX POF P-308 with any PMags but I haven't tired any Gen III mag and wont as I have a big supply of earlier ones.

No problems on my end with early gen or new gen PMAGS on my P308. Do you have any other generation PMAGS you can try? Are the PMAGS all from the same lot? Wouldn't think it would be that but never know....
