Thought I would share some pics of 6.5cm DIY job. I think it turned out nice.
Broke down the action and measured it up.

You are really going to like the 6.5CM. I have two of them.
Looks like a very nice job too. Like the crown.
Not to derail but now that I am retired, I am itching to learn to run a lathe. Do you have a Grizzly?
A buddy has one I can learn on. Once I see if I can run it then I guess I'll start looking for a used one with some tooling.

I've been shooting the creedmoor for a couple years. Have lots of rounds and matches under the belt with it. It's a great cartridge an not one I will soon be without.

Yes, that is a grizzly lathe. I really like it. Very nice machine for the money.

Looks really good and I like the caliber stamp. How do you like that reamer Micrometer? I really love mine.

LMFAO..... I know. I tried to get them to chatter but it just wouldn't. Maybe some one we know could shoot me some pointers...

You sure you dont mean 6.5 Lapua....All those damn CM's....maybe one day I'll have to go to the dark side....

Try using a carbide threading tool at 70 rpm I bet you can make it chatter. I almost made this comment but restrained myself, glad someone else noticed and beat me to it haha

Damn, thats impressive, maybe thats not their problem then.

I only mentioned that because I bought some TiNi coated TPMC32NV carbide inserts to try in my AR Warner holder and I could never get them to work anywhere near as nice as the HSS ones from ARW.

Are you able to get that nice of a finish not holding super rigid in the 3jaw like that? IE with a barrel on soft pads for indicating?

Typically I get good threads when I use a copper wire around the breech end and an outboard spider, but in another thread, I posted some results that bugged me. I got a Viper's Action Truing fixture and assumed that all that material hanging out in space was the culprit, but I've since found a problem in my compound that was causing it to wobble on interrupted cuts. I fixed it and I suspect it was the problem. I haven't done a tenon yet in the fixture and with the compound fixed, but I'll report on the results when I do (I'll probably do a test piece, or recut a take-off barrel first to be sure).

Here's the thread:

I live in central Florida, I'd have to think real hard but there just may be a company down here that can teach you to put chatter in those threads.
Nice work by the way, looks like you may have done that once before.

As promised, here's my latest attempt with the Viper's fixture and a tenon thread after my compound fix. Looks pretty good here:

But after polishing the chamber, I took a pic and in this lighting, you can see some slight scalloping. I'm going to have to do some more tests.

A little scalloping wont hurt a thing. Looks good I think. I have the big Grizzly gunsmithing Lathe and its rock solid. I use a Kennametal #2 insert NTF2R to be exact and I can cut really nice threads spinning the chuck around 260. I also have a rock jag pusher but I modified mine a bit. I didn't feel it was a true floating pusher as it was. More of an angular pusher. My run out went way down after the mod as well. Drill bore and ream.
Nice job on that barrel. Looks fantastic!! Lee

I'm not a prebore guy. Nothing against those that do but I haven't really seen the need. My chambers are coming out .0001 or so tir when finished and I can't argue with that. I know there's a lot of support for prebore but I'm not in that camp.

I also use ptg rods and not Gordy rods. I have had no issue with indicating to zero runout. I put the rod in and leave it in until I'm ready to cut bolt nose cb and chamber. Check everything with dti in chamber when done. Not that it matters cause you ain't gonna change it. It will be what it is.
