Shot Show 2014 Home Laser Devices DBAL-PL class 1 IR pistol Laser

The new Laser Devices 4 in 1 pistol laser. 500 visible lumen light, IR illuminator, visible and IR lasers.

This is an all in one pistol based laser and illumination system for pistols. It is relatively compact and there is a holster that is in production for it. I posted another video focusing on that holster.

This light is innovative in that the lasers are slaved to each other. Therefore, you would zero with the visible laser and the IR laser would be zeroed.

The visible light is 500 lumens and the IR illuminator doesn't over power the NVGs at pistol ranges. The switching systems works for me. IR is selected by depressing the left switch with the shooter's off hand (if right handed) and white light is selected by depressing the right switch with the trigger finger.

The battery compartment is easily accessed by depressing two latches and opening the cover to the battery compartment. the unit uses common CR123 batteries.

Great little unit we saw the proto ealy last year and handled working unit several months ago. The IR Lum portion is very impressive for the size (200 yard +) and is revolutionary in this aspect. They will be offered as a stand alone and also with a holster package.

We're told available late 1st qtr.

LDI Laser Devices is projecting end of summer / beginning of fall for the DBAL-PL; not end of first quarter.
They are suppose to have a insensitive green laser. I do not know to what temperature it will work too but it sounds promising.

Just call me little red riding hood.

According to Chappy, NOT direct drive, but usable down to -40. So unless you're in Winnipeg or Fairbanks, you should be fine.

Indeed that is confirmed. There will be a few other minor improvement changes in the actual production version as well that will be announced shortly.

Vic

Please tell me this one is .7mW and not .1mW? That would be nice, particularly with an illuminator good for 200m.

If it is .7mW or it comes in a version like that, then Vic, put me down for one when they come out please.

Well, from what I'm told ANYTHING can change about this. It debuted at SHOT as a .7mW, however, they took some feedback from extensive testing and user input and could tweak the mW, or any other thing really. Chappy at LDI has had great usage out of the illum out to 100m, however, I think 200m would be pushing it, just because the IR illum's spread is wide, to give more coverage at closer/pistol distances. So it may dissipate at distances like 200m.

ETA: For the record, I'm not trying to start a rumor, just simply stating things could change. When we get word of the final GO (which we do often times WAY before product release for photos, testing etc.) we will let you guys know.

Has there been any chatter about modifying the switches so they're easier to access when the unit is mounted on a rifle?

Hi vmpglenn. Please be aware the PL (Pistol Laser) is designed from the ground up to be just that. All the switchology, and performance specs are also designed for handguns. It was funny, last November I was at LDI playing with some of the new entries they were about to offer (could not say much publicly as we're under NDA on many of their programs) but told them there would be many attempting to use this as a rifle mounted system. Assured as Chappy (LDI's lead technical trainer) has mentioned on another forum there ARE other systems coming to address rifle solutions. We can also confirm this, there are some very good systems that will revolutionize the lighting world on the horizon. Exciting times ahead.

Vic

Also to add, they're holster systems getting developed for the new PL as well.

I also looked at these for my 9mm suppressed carbine. Alittle less money than the D2 but simlar functions performance under 100 yards.

Thanks a lot Eric. Hopefully these are ready for retail sales pretty soon. But surefires offering are starting to look tempting.

Hi Crazy1323, presently the delay is based on Steiner taking over all the main distribution for LDI. We posted this info about 3 weeks ago and the channel distribution process has delayed a few projects. We hope in the end with Steiner handling all the distribution (and cleaning up a gazlilion sku's), LDI can really concentrate on engineering and producibility which will mean better volume with minimum back orders. That's how it's suppose to work any hoot. ;)

Any updates on a possible release date? I still wish you could use the laser alone without activating the light.. (like press once light + laser, hold laser only) but well see how the reviews go.

Agree on the lack of viz laser alone option. Similarly, it looks like the IR laser can only be activated with the IR illuminator - and I assume this might created unwated bloom in the operator's NVGs, in conditions other than total darkness.

Maybe the TNVC crew can jump back in the thread and opine on this?

Swapped a couple of emails with LDI seems they are still finalizing the specs on the PL and may be changing some of the functions as the release date keeps getting pushed back. Theyre quality control is amazing, so if it is getting delayed it means its not performing how they intend it too. Sounds hopeful to me!! Single activation instead of dual and Id start tossing cash at my monitor. The excess bloom would be interesting to test, wonder if TNVC has a prototype model :p.

We did have a prototype model, however, we tested it, took our photos and then sent it back. They are still working on the unit, and even we don't know what changes are being made, if any, that are drastic.

No updates on release. AS soon as their is, everyone will be sure to know.

I'm excited about this. I call dibs on a black one with green laser.

I really hope the purchase by Steiner has the happy coincidence of unfucking the switchology to something that's actually useful.

Was not technically a purchase by Steiner, they are already owned by Beretta as is LDI nowadays. Steiner is a better company distribution point which in the end will help the sometimes steep wait times on LDI products.

We do know some things have changed with the PL. We shall see officially in the very near future.

Thanks for the clarification Vic. I hope the changes are the switching methodology. I'm so ready to pull the trigger on this it's nuts, and the only thing that would change my mind is the switching. I think this is sort of on the edge of either being the absolute best pistol light/laser on the market, or the biggest non-starter LDI has ever released. I REALLY hope that it's the former and not the latter.

I concur, if they made changes to the switch .. View attachment shut up and take my money.bmp

Then again they changed their minds about making a CQBL-1 in green which made me very sad :(. Most compact IR/Vis and Slaved, WHAT. My SBR was drooling for one.
