Anyone else wish the Sako Quad action was threaded?

The quad is arguably one of the nicest factory rimfires available. Yet that switch system seems a bit untrustworthy. I've not experienced any POI shifting as of yet, but I keep thinking that it could be such a better firearm if it wasn't trying to be 4 rifles in 1.

Having never switched barrels, I've not experienced any woes associated with how the barrel attaches. My Quad only does .22LR, it has no ambitions toward other calibers.

I love my Quad so much as a 22LR that I won't even consider a barrel change. It would seem, depending on scope/mount, that the only issue with barrel changes would be clearing the scope once the barrel is loosened.

If anything it would be nice to have it secure with no one flat side so I could index the barrel for the tightest groups. Other than that, the learning curve for setting headspace against the bolt is fairly short.

Any suggestions on methodology for setting headspace? Mine shoots quite well but I still feel like I bungle my way through it. I put a fired case in place and snug things up basically.

I but the rifle on its butt and put the barrel in then I close the bolt and give very gentle downward pressure on mine with a case chambered. Then tighten the set screw. That's it.

I assume a fired case... I haven't measured but can fired case dimension vary depending on the headspace from the chamber in which it was fired?

Yes a fired one. I have a few saved from when I first shot the factory barrel for this. A GO gauge is probably the correct way to do it though

HAHA! Oh, I'll still keep my quad's. My main Quad is in 22lr configuration, cut to 16" and wearing a SWR SpectreII. Shot a pigeon in the head at 73yds a couple days ago. He was on top my shop, peek-a-boo'ing over the top of the roof cap. Silhouette against the white sky, I got to watch my CCI sub HP curve into his eye socket. 20mph gusty wind had me curving bullets like that one shitty movie! I gave myself a mental high-five.

I just hope that annie shoots as good as my three 40X's. :)
