I saw the Nightforce Mil-R reticle in a few scopes at SHOT '14 and was very impressed with the design. I typically dial for elevation and hold for wind and the breaks in the horizontal stadia line make fine tuning a hold very easy.

Anyway, I sent in my scope to have the reticle changed and the old knobs checked out. I received the scope back on Friday evening (two weeks later). Nightforce installed the reticle and changed out my knobs to their new ones. The "clicks" are very positive and have a great feel to them making adjusting very easy.

I had the chance to get out on some long distance steel targets at distance yesterday (740 yards to one Mile). After a quick zero on paper at 100 I went to the closest steel at 740 yards. I checked the Leica LRF, the Kestrel, and the Shooter app on the phone. I decided to use the reticle for holdovers instead of dialing and was on target in three rounds. I continued to drill the reduced IPSC with the remainder of the magazine. Once I confirmed the proper elevation I dialed it in and used the horizontal stadia to keep up with wind changes. This scope/reticle combination was simply second nature to use and made hits simple. Several other shooters got behind the rifle and had the same reaction to this scope and reticle combination...as pings echoed across the valley. (18" Kreiger 1/7.7 Wyld chamber with 77's) The target is above the black speck just above the muzzle in the second photo.

I'd like to thank Nightforce for the outstanding customer service and an outstanding product.

Sir,
What was charge to change reticule? Turrets? Do they click now in cold temps?
Thanks!

You will have to ask Nightforce about pricing. As for cold weather, I just got the scope back the day before yesterday and it was about 60F here in Northern CA with a DA of 3280. I can't comment with any authority on cold weather performance. However, the new knobs are exponentially better than the old ones in my opinion.

So what did "you" give for the modifications? I think readers, like me, would want a ball park on what a modification like that would cost. Please share.

For those curious about the rifle:

The rifle is an old KAC SR15 Match AR with a Kreiger 1/7.7 barrel and Knight's trigger. The NXS 2.5-10x 24mm sits in the lowest (1.125) Nightforce uni-mount for a rock solid cheek weld on a carbine stock.

It has evolved into what I felt was the perfect sniper support rifle for LE work. I took off the A2 stock and added the LMT SOPMOD then cut the barrel from 20" to 18" and put on a surefire MB/can adapter (the break chambers increase the effectiveness of the can). Several optics have come and gone including ACOG's but I absolutely love the 2.5-10x Nightforce in this role, particularly with the new Mil-R reticle. I have used the old Leupod Mk4 3.5-10x optics on it also but found the longer tube length slowed me down on movers. But, the low 2.5x and short tube of the NXS works great on snap targets and movers while the 10x works well for precision/identification.
