I make grips as some of you know. I was just sent tis message

"I am a former Navy Seal and I would like to know if you could do a set of grips for my rock island G.I. commander with the seal team crest."

so what should I do.. I can't imagine that a navy seal would even waist his time on a rock island

I think I'm going to price them high so he go's away but I normally try to find out if I'm doing work like this for the real deal I am pretty sure this guy is not it

Tell him you can offer a small mil discount if he would please care to verify with his service record.

Only way I know for "proof" would be in his DD214...which I at least don't hand out to freely.

If he was willing I'd give him a discount if he can provide proof, which would be contained in his DD214...it would be in section 8a, his last duty station...as well in his DD214 should be something about completing BUDS in section 14 military education.

I Was never in the military just a brat.. so knowing how to verify is helpful info

I priced them super high I just don't see a seal buying a R.I.A

ill send a message giving him a discount if he can provide proof

Possibly I offered him a 50% discount with proff that would put the price about 20% below normal price

My Rock Island has been 100% reliable. If I was to ask for an Eagle, Globe and Anchor would you care? Of course I ain't asking for no discount. Nor do I want an E/G/A. I prefer Strider Simonich grips - the real ones and that is what my R/I 1911 wears....

The guys I knew on the teams wore Casio G shocks and carried Cold Steel knives. Not a Rolex nor Randall to be seen.....

Do you require proof from all service members or just the ones that say they're Navy Seals? What if he doesn't want to share any of the information on his DD214 and opts to pay full price instead, would you still sell to him?

For what it is worth, I understand not wanting to contribute to the potential BS of a fake. However, if that is in fact the case, that is on him, not you. If it were me, I would do the best job I could and wish him well. You can put out a quality product, have pride in your work, and that will speak for you.

MOST! of the army/navy/air force grips that I have done are for people I personally know or have been recommended by these people that I personally know. Its not a common request..

I have done business with people that are clearly fakers but I just simply ignore there stupid as long as the dealings go smoothly but I just seam to have a hard time doing business that involves enabling there B.S. I don't know im torn on the subject I like making money who doesn't.. I just have so much respect for what these guys do it makes me feel like I am disrespecting them if I do work for some clown

And if anybody says they don't know their class number they don't have a class number.

I have shown my work here regularly a set I just finished will be hitting the for sale section in a Day or so just need to get a few pics

Dang you, Eli.
Now I want a set of those brown grips (second from bottom) for my Colt Cdr. What style/color are those?

thank you they are time consuming.. all the more reason I don't want a duch bag running around with something this nice

Hahahaha,

I believe these are the ones you did for ME last year.

I'll get you to do an Eagle Globe and Anchor in my next ones (and will gladly send you my DD214). ;)

If you have any of that ebony wood left, what would a basic polished grip set be for a standard 1911? It's a bit of a frankenstein gun, made up from a bunch of random parts, but when Mac Scott said it was one hell of a shooter, I knew I did good with it. Bob said you did a hell of a job on those grip panels and when I held them they were superb, very nice feel to them too

So what is being used now? 214s never had everything on them, hence the 201 (back when)was the truth Sayer. I've read 201 excerpts from the mid 90's, when did they go away?

late 90's if i recall, replaced by the ERB or ORB(enlisted record brief/Officer record brief). It is like you siad tho much more detailed than the 214

If you're asking about the bobtailed ones I "quoted" in my post joking with Eli, they're snakewood for a Nighthawk. I can try to dig out a picture of them on the pistol if you'd like.
Eli did a badass job on both the Punishers, which were a gift for a friend of mine, and the snakewoods.

I think we spent at least a month just discussing wood options.

I take that time with every one. People work hard for there money. I realy want people to get exactly what they are asking for. I have done some very personalized grips. One person sent me a lock of horse hair from his favorite horse and I was able to make him a set out of his horses hair. Point is I take my time and make it rite I just can't justify that effort for a fake

Here's the picture of the snakewoods and punishers above:

As I said, the black palm Punishers were a gift for a friend, I put them on one of my Kimbers to check the fit. The Snakewood are on a Nighthawk Custom bobtail. The crappy iPhone pic certainly doesn't do them justice. The step by step photos Eli sent me of how he does the inlays were mind-blowing in how much work goes into them.
