Questions about Remingtom 700 SPS AAC-SD Stock Replacement and Inletting

Long time lurker, first time posting. I have been shooting AR-15's for a long time. I am planning on getting into precision shooting and I am going to get the Remington 700 AAC-SD. From what I have read I know I want to replace the stock as soon as possible. I want to get a B&C Medalist Light Tactical A3 with the hook.

I plan on getting Surgeon bottom metal for this rifle but not right away. As I understand it, I can order the stock inletted for the Surgeon bottom metal and still use the original hinged floorplate until I can get the bottom metal at a letter date, not made of money.

My question is will I have issues getting the action to seat properly in the stock due to the inletting when using the hinged floorplate. Will I need to shim the action and if so what would I use as shims.

Thanks in advance, Rob

I take it from the question you posed that you're not a handloader. Do yourself a favor and just get a B and C for the regular 700 set up w/ no dbm. That's just money really wasted. This is just my personal opinion but if were you I would save up for a really nice build and then worry about surgeon bottom metal. The throat is so long on mine I single feed so bottim metal would be a waste of money.

This thread is relevant to my interest as well. Are you guys saying the DBM is a waste of money without more modifications? I wanted one for ease during hunting.

You can... But I just don't see WHY on a rifle that costs 675 to 700 $ for dbm that costs about half of that or a little more for surgeon by the time you get threw getting it inletted and installed. The damn mags are 85$!

if you are going hunting the mag isnt really buying you anything. And if it does the math goes against you. 300 for stock and 300 for mag kit. Or add 100 and get stock with it already. Hell, AICS are going for $697 at milehigh right now. Remmy's have forever freebore so an accuracy shooter is gonna handload anyway. Chasing the lands.

True, I am a handloader but admittedly I am new to that also. I think I'll take your advice and just stick with the regular floor plate for now.

Thanks for the advice.

Sort of on a related note, is the AAC barrel contour the same as varmint/police?
