Gunsmithing Few questions... Now that I'm having a new barrel put on.. Anything else??

Back story... I have a Rem700 in .308 that shoots lights out. Sendero fluted contour and threaded for my suppressor. I ordered an .260 Bartlein barrel as I plan to shoot out to 1200 often. Since this is such a great shoot rifle now should I have anything done to it while I'm having a new barrel put on it?

Honestly I wouldn't mess with a gun that shoots so well....

Before I was building my own rifles I had a few that just had the barrel chambered. No truing- or anything else. They shot great. One was particularly amazing

If you aren't fully committed to 260 you may want to consider 6.5x47 lapua.

For the last few years my friend has "rolled" my rounds for me and he is a perfectionist.... He now loads for his .260 so now for mine too...

If it already shoots great, then the only thing I would look at is a new trigger. Then it might shoot even better. Maybe a bolt knob for convenience.

Got ya. Honestly if your having a new barrel put on it, you should have the action trued as well. It's only $1-200 more depending on how your smith trues the action threads. The smith will either run a tap through the threads (cheaper version, less work), or dial it up in a lathe and re-cut the threads true to the centerline of the action.

I would run from any smith that uses a tap to try to straighten up a receivers threads. If it shoots great now I would expect it do the same or better with the new barrel.

A side bolt release is a nice upgrade, m16 extractor, 8-40 scope base upgrade, could have the bolt handle re located to maximize primary extraction and strengthen the bolt body/bolt handle connection, or get a new one piece bolt
