I went to the gun show this past weekend with the intention of picking up a pistol. Most of the pistols I liked were a little over priced but "Oooo shiney". I saw a RRA R3 competition. I've been visiting this site while doing a little research on AR's and getting a plan together but I got bit by the bug. I didn't know much about this one model so I pulled it up on the phone. I liked the specs. It seemed to be a fair price for buyer and seller. So I bought it.

I've shot friends AR's before but this is my first one. Usually we shoot between 50 and 100 yards standing and at the bench with rifles so I went with a Burris AR-332 for optics. Unfortunately I've got about 2 weeks before I can shoot it. Just enough time for my extra mags to come in the mail. Also thinking about a foregrip w/bipod. While I research, any thoughts?

I'll get some more pics and let you know what I think after shooting it. Any other questions just ask.

Looks pretty good to me! personally, id put a surefire mb on it. Again, that's just me.

That rifle is bad ass. Pretty much same specs as the ath but with a fluted barrel and the new updated handguard. If youre going for bug hole groups, then you might want a scope, but it sounds like thats not what you do.

Kick ass and i think youre the first person on the hide to post pics of this bad ass rifle. Run it on the CQC shootout and maybe even the 100yard shootout.

Personally id rock a 3-15 or 4-16 or 5-20 scope, with offset irons but thats just me. It will make it heavy tho! Its all about intended purpose. With what youve stated id get a 1-4 scope or 1-6

This is the SNIPERs hide, so common, how's it shoot? Show us some groups fired from this rifle so we can see if I t shoots as good as in looks.

I would put a SWFA 1-6x on that thing and you will have point blank to 600 yard capable rifle. Glass is super clear and it has a nice 1x donut for up close work and mil reticle for longer range stuff.

Ok. So it looks like I didn't do enough reading about what kind of optics best fit me. The Burris I have I think would be "OK" out to 100 yds and a bit challenging for close range, 10-25yds.

Elfster, I like your idea of a scope with 45 degree irons. This setup will cover a much wider range. Better to have and not need then need and not have sorta thing. I think I'll take the Burris back to Bass Pro and see what I can get in a scope. I'll order the mounts and the irons later.

It's killing me I have to wait one more week to shoot this rifle.

Look at the primary arms 1-6 and the bushnell 1-4, here it is on my rifle it's good from point blank to 500 yards with its reticle.

If youre going to be shooting groups / bench shooting mostly, then id get a 3-15 scope which will get you to 600yards easy. And the rts offset irons gives a nice option to play with at the range.

Thanks to everyone for their input.

I took the Burris back to Bass Pro. Since Nikon was having a sale on their optics I traded the Burris for a Monarch3 4x16-42 and it only cost me an extra $20. For the close range shots I'll figure something out... next pay day.

I think I'm all set for the weekend. Too bad it's only Monday.

I wasn't very happy the first time I took out the RRA. It took too long to sight in and I ran out of ammo before I could get some decent shooting going. There were probably a few things I did wrong mounting the scope. This is my first one. Looking at it now in the pics I need to flip the scope mounts to bring it back about 1/2 an inch. I'm more comfortable shooting with the butt stock pulled out to the 3rd or 4th position which puts me just out of range of the eye relief as it sits.

This is how it sits now after my second session with it.

After resetting the scope I had to walk it in one more time. The bottom right diamond is where I think I have it. Also the bottom of the target is held down by 550 cord. Doesn't make for a stable target when the wind blows.

My last set of groups. Bottom left, Center, and Bottom right are American Eagle 5.56 55 grain. Top left and top right are Winchester .223 62 grain.
It was about 76 degrees and 10-15 mph cross winds.

All of these shots were taken at the 100 yard table with just the Mako Fore Grip/Bi-Pod. For shooting groups I might change out the bi-pod. But it's very comfortable when switching from scope to iron sights at the 10 - 35 yard range.

Hopefully one of these days I'll shoot as good as the rifle.
