Gunsmithing Which extractor

M16 is pinned in whereas sako isn't m16 is hands down the better extractor

Doesn't the extractor have to be reshaped or the counterbore opened up for the m16 type?

Is the standard extractor causing problems? If not, keep it. It is by far the safest extractor available and the vast majority work flawlessly. Sakos on R700s are unsafe. I'd go with the mini-16 if you just "have" to change it.

Yes, yes it does. Learned that lesson on the first rifle I barreled with the M16 extractor!

why is the sako ext unsafe . [not trying to jack the thread.] what are the pros and cons of each ? please explain.

It destroys Remington's "three-rings-of-steel" design. From Remington: "counterbored bolt face encloses the cartridge head with an unbroken ring of steel; which then fits inside of the barrel chamber; and is surrounded by the receiver"

Look at where that sako/m16 extractor lines up when the bolt is in battery. What do you think is going to give if a case head separation occurs, and where do you think it's going to go?
