408 Cheytac Components?

The old Cheytac bought Jamison Intl with the intent of having them produce their brass & bullets (among other things). It's entirely possible this new version of Cheytac is having the new version of Jamison (ie Captech) make 'em.

That is correct. Jamison-Captech can only sell the "Cheytac" brass & bullets to Cheytac.

Terrific. So if the old cheytac was less than great to do business with, it is a fair assumption that the new captech won't be much better. This is like a freaking riddle! I wish it was easier to find some good 408 brass! I'm about done with my Bertram!

Jamison made good brass starting around 2008 - the two star quality. I would suspect that Captech is essentially doing the same. And dealing with Jamison was quite good, in my experience.

"I wish it was easier to find some good 408 brass! I'm about done with my Bertram!"...

There is a very attractive option to drawn brass cases that will soon be available... Follow Frank's "Did some testing of a solid... @ 1k" thread.

VaRandy,

"... what did I miss about solving the crap brass problem?"...

I should have been more clear. The "crap brass problem" will be solved by eliminating brass altogether. New propellants currently available, specifically; Alliant Reloader 17, 33, and 50, have opened a new door to flatter pressure curves with greater velocities. To fully take advantage of this, new case designs/materials are justified. You will see ZA stainless cases on the market soon.

Gunenthusiast,

The first to be released will be the 338-408, but it is a small matter to make adjustments for the standard Cheytac 375 & 408 depending upon demand.

375-50 will follow, and again 50 BMG manufacture is only an adjustment if there is pressure to produce. The next priority would be calibers based upon the 338 LM case derivatives... mainly 270, and 30. Smaller calibers using RL-17 will become publicly available later. I see those as more of a hobby because of the interesting challenges posed that benefit R&D on the larger chamberings.

The primary momentum will be directed towards ELR 30, 338, 375 at higher than normal velocities, of which you will see the first example within two months. To use these cases, the chamber/boltface will need to be hardened.

I still have a few of the original cases they sold as XM-2 that were built by the German company Hornebar. I also have maybe 500 419 Lost River solids that are very accurate. Fowling was AWFUL but it finally cleared in my 36 inch K&P barrel. I will shoot the 2 mile course in Va in the spring with the other ELR crazies!

Anyone try the actual Cheytac brass or bullets in 408?

Thanks for the update Noel, It sounds very interesting, idk about modifying my bolt and chamber though.

VaRandy, What 2 mile course in Va are you talking about? Is it open to anyone?

I ordered a box of 20 factory Cheytac 408 ammo, it was delivered today. Its loaded in Jamison 2 star brass. If it shoots well I will be getting more Jamison brass from them and maybe more of their bullets to try.

I went to my local club range today and shot the factory 408 cheytac ammo i bought a few weeks ago. The accuracy of this factory ammo I am not particularly happy with. I shot 4 groupswith 5 shots each. The worst 5 shot group was 1.8 moa and the best was .96 with an average of 1.35. My reloads have been averaging 1.1 to 1.2 moa so I feel good that my loads are out performing the factory $7.50 per round ammo. I guess my next step is to sort the brass by weight and get the necks turned and uniformed.

What should I get to turn the necks on 408 cases?
