So I posted up a little caption on good ole FB and my "buddy" from the Navy chimes in. He's one of those book-smart, never seen a situation in his life, kind of sailors. As he opens up against my caption that lists my AR as my match rifle, varmint rifle, and an option for home defense, he says that "a majority of gun owners are stupid and don't live in an area where a rifle is necessary for home defense". I simply replied "well there's no need to sound off man, it wont be you in court if they get into a situation with their rifle".

A few minutes elapse...

Then he says "And I laughed when that Daniel Defense ad pictured an ex-marine living in a middle class neighborhood choosing an AR to defend his family. He is more likely to shoot his family or a boyfriend sneaking in late than an intruder in that neighborhood."

After giving him a speech about not judging another soldier's method of home defense, he drops his case and moves on to suppressors.

"Suppressors are a waste of money" "They neuter rifles in so many ways" "They make rifles less accurate" "They are not hearing safe"

I sent him my suppressor data shooting my AAC SDN-6 for dB level as well as a buddy's Thunderbeast on a 5.56 and he continues to say they are a waste.

Then he drops the proverbial bomb by saying "Sorry I'm a technical major and actually read up on these things"

Face palm of the damn decade... If you're stuck on a sub and don't use the gear I do, please keep your ignorance to yourself.

Waste of breath and/or calories from typing my friend.

Sounds like a "double barrel shotgun" kinda guy. You know, I hear you can fire one of those in the air to scare away bears, whales, burglars, rabbits, and even the tooth fairy.

Usually "stupid" people of the kind he describes are people of average intelligence that blind themselves to the truth because of their allegiance to an ideology. They NEED their ideology to be true and validate their worldview so they simply refuse to acknowledge facts. They typically are full of self loathing at the cowardice and dishonesty they feel by doing this, and as a defense mechanism will project these feelings on their ideological enemies to try and get rid of them. I would actually feel sorry for these people if they weren't the enemies of free men everywhere.

Maybe it's the water in the Greater Chicagoland area, and it affects some as they pass through?

This sounds like something my cousin would say...scary part is, hes in the navy as well but is not assigned to a sub. From one of America's ELITE fighting forces, its scary that this type of mindset actually gets paid by the same people who pay our SEAL's. Not trying to flame here, and everyone has the right to their own opinion, but come on...dont tell me what kind of gun I do or do not need...

KYPatriot, I'm in 100% agreement, wheres a brew to toast when I need it.

Just to clarify, by "from the Navy" I meant he's in the Navy and thats where my buddy was speaking from.

His "technical major" comment really sparked off a questioning spree in my mind. Had I taken the time to write the rest of his ideologies related to the deployment of certain weapons systems and the ethics of doing so, I wouldn't have fingers. We haven't spoke since his rant about this, which I should've seen coming after his last rant in December about the ROE and why people need to lay off the jokes that say "SEALS and the Navy roots them on"

He has definitely been an interesting character the entire time I've known him. Always one to take three times as long to articulate a response than he takes to listen. If he would put down the books and actually get into the field, there might be a chance for a break through in his future. Until then, he'll be stuck ranting his ideas and concepts with only text to back him up.

I question so many things from this post. First, there is no such thing in any educational system as a Technical Major. Majors are, Math, Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, etc. If he was in a Major that actually was valid, he would have said what it was.

Second, why would anyone have a douche like this as a friend?

Third, why are you on gaybook?

Fourth, why would you waste time arguing with this douche?

KyPatriot said it all, most eloquently and no one could say it any better.

Yeah, most of the time you are right on. But every now and then you might find a guy who heard some of this stuff when he was young, said by some one he thought was authoritative, and who has just not had the chance to objectively consider the facts.
