As you can all see it is not perfect. The threaded portion isn't perfectly in line with the angle of the handle. I believe that it is about 0.020" away from being in line with it. I will take that into account for the future set ups. It will be an easily fixed issue from here on out. Still working out the kinks, but I am finally making progress! After doing this today I have new ideas on how it should be done to speed things up. But until then this method works! The knob knob should butt up to the top of the threaded portion quite well. I want to thank all of the Hide members who encouraged me to keep pushing forward with this!

Looking forward to getting this thing 100% figured out!

Haha, well it does need to go somewhere, I don't have a use for it. I'd certainly be willing to work something out if anyone was interested in it.

Here's one that is getting close to being finished. Turned out much nicer than my last one!

I have something else in the works that I am hoping will be ready to show by next week I think most here will like!

Also I am trying to design a little smaller knob that threads onto the handle. What do you guys think would be a good size, the one pictured is 3/4" diameter which is what the factory CZ knob is close to. Thanks

Ben

Ben, how much do you charge to do this work?
I've got a little 455 that needs a bigger sexier knob.

I don't think you will want to go any smaller than 1/2" for a round handle. It's more work but you might try one out in an oval configuration at 3/4"wide x 1/2" thick...just a thought.

Sent you a PM.

Thank you for your input, I'll certainly keep this in mind when trying to designing it!

Looking good. I like to put a slight angle on them as well like in the 3rd picture of post #5. That way the knob doesn't stick out from the stock so far or hit the scope.

A compliment from you is very well received! I really appreciate it! Your work is very impressive! I am still working on perfecting the process but it's getting there.

I prefer to make the knob right on the handle for the cleanest look. I thread the handle and then screw the blank onto it. Then cut the taper and make the knob to whatever style is desired. When you polish the shoulder with emery cloth it makes for a nearly seamless fit when finished.
Here are a couple of pics of one I turned this morning alongside one of my blanks.

That's gonna look totally bad ass on my tacticool build!!!!

I am using a mill and cleaning it up on the lathe. If you look into the other thread there are a few members there showing theirs mounted in a lathe. I think mscott who posted in this thread also uses a lathe.

Ben

Ok. Dumb question. Are you guys turning these on a lathe. If so what kind?

I prefer to do them in a lathe myself. I can make everything concentric and change shoulder angles. Can match the nose of the knob to the shoulder for a very streamlined look.

Since this thing is entitled with my name I guess I should get more pics in here of my work...

This one turned out really nice!

I'm not exactly sure I follow..? You mean like the butter knife handles?

As far as the current type of handles go I have a new one in the works! Stay tuned!
