I am awaiting delivery of a used DPMS Lr260. I had an lR308 and loved it. Never gave me any trouble and consistently shot 3/4 MOA with hand loads, 1/2 on good days. Traded her off and missed it. I am going to set this one up to shoot long range matches with. Shot my first match last month and loved it. I will be modifying it as I tinker with everything I own. Below is a list in order of importance that I see. Please critique as there may be things I am overlooking. It has an 8.5 twist 24" bbl and I do plan on hand loading 130-142 gr pills. It already has PRS stock. Please feel free to recommend brands or products too.

1. Tubbs FINAL finish
2. JP Low adj gas block
3. NiB BCG coating
4. Palm shelf grip
5. Muzzle brake of some sort. Side ports.
6. Quad rail extra long forend.
7. Custom Duracoated by yours truly.

And some pmags somewhere in there.

Not sure I would use the final finish on a used and fired weapon.
Are you planning on running suppressed or just like a adj gas block?
The other stuff is your option, I dont run a shelf grip I like a normal pistol grip like an ergo or something of the likes.
Muzzle brakes I know a guy that makes his own. Also built my 6 creed gasser and its a hammer except I run a suppressor.
Pmags are everywhere now so you should be fine.

I used the final finish on a factory 223 700 and it emensely easier to clean and fouls slower. Both pluses in my world.

It won't be suppressed. I am going to be putting a low profile block on and it might as we'll be adjustable so I can tune it with hopes of it running cleaner???

I like the palm shelf because I feel like it lets me relax my hand for better trigger control.

Thanks for looking.

Tubbs FINAL finish in a used barrel will just wear the throat more than it is already worn.

I actually find C-Products and DPMS mags fit better than PMAGs in the LR's. The standard mags are very very good.

My LR260 is slightly more accurate than my LR308, but both are in the sub 3/4 moa range. The only thing I would change for sure is the trigger. Drop in a Geissele SSA-E at minimum, or a Geissele HS National Match if you really want to increase your accuracy.

The rifle has a RRA Match 2 stage trigger now. I am familiar with the JP I had in my LR308. I am going to see how it feels and adjust accordingly. I am looking at the Giessele National Match. They seem to hold the crown for AR triggers.

I was looking at the Midwest Industries 15" SS series hand guard. Any one have any experience with them?

I have a DPMS LR260 with a Krieger heavy 24" barrel, DD lite rail, adj. gas block and PRS stock and it is a bear to haul around. Scope is a SS 5-20 x50. It's easily 15 lbs. Accurate to about 1/2 MOA, but a beast to carry. It also has Templar Tactical brake for my can.

Im a pretty big guy and dont plan on carrying the rifle too far, i.e. truck to deer stand, truck to range, so hopefully the weight wont kill me. I have contemplated having the barrel cut to 20" when the brake is added. Is this long enough for a 260? I have experience with 18"-20" 308s and love them.

Long enough for hunting small-medium sized game and paper punching? Yea. The 260 can build a LOT of velocity with longer tubes though, so you would be leaving a lot on the table. I personally wouldn't go shorter than 24", but with a can you are looking at lugging around a pretty long stick.

I wont have a can on it for the foreseeable future, but I was wondering if I would be losing too much powder burn. Guess that depends on what powder it ends up liking.

Why a palm shelf grip and why a quad rail?

I like the palm shelf because I feel like I can relax my hand better with it for better trigger control.

The quad rail because... maybe not a quad rail, but i need a rail on bottom for my Atlas and I need flush cups on the left side.

I really like the Midwest Industries SS15 alot. I am concerned about the clap on style fore end. Does anyone have any real world 1st person experience with this style system failing?

In my opinion quad rails are a waste of weight, and uncomfortable to hold, even with covers. I would look into one of the many options like keymod, where you can attach rail bits where needed. I know some other companies make similar products with similar functionality.

It's not really a failure, and comes down to personal preference.
