For those of you running federal gold metal through a factory AI barrel, what do you find generally does the best, the 168s, 175s or the 7.62x51 175s?
I have had good luck with the 168grs in a 1:10 twist AI factory barrel. SD 10-13 ES 30-35 over 40 rounds from the same lot. I havnt tried the 175’s yet

Well shit, I get that es from the bulk M118LR and it's only .80 per round with better brass and a 175 smk. Granted, I didn't chronograph as many rounds though.

I got to see for myself why guys love these AWSM's so much! The gun had only 30 rounds thru it when I purchased it. It is so impressive how accurate they are with just factory federal gmm!

Where are you getting your M118LR?

16-3/4” barrel so I didn’t really expect great results.

I got mine for $0.82/round shipped

For that cheap can’t really argue with those results

I bought it from mass ammo...https://www.massammo.com/product/lake-city-7-62x51mm-nato-175gr-match-grade-xm118lr-bthp-250-rounds-loose-free-shipping/
I know it's not the same as the cardboard box M118LR but I have some of that here too I plan to test and see exactly how different it realy is. My 308 barrel is a factory 20" I had cut back and threaded 5/8-24 so it's about 18" when not in the gun, aka something like 15" of actual lands and grooves. I'm getting 2550 fps and about 30 es over 10 rounds if my memory is right.

Mine started as a 24” factory barrel and I had it cut to 16-3/4” and threaded for 5/8-24. About 15-1/4” from shoulder to crown. I am getting 2510fps suppressed.

I had the opportunity to sneak away for a couple hours before vacation and the 16-3/4” barrel did not disappoint.

I have not had to tweak BCs or the AB custom curves much with the Kestrel 5700 Elite. This barrel and the 168gr’s I had to go from a G1 of 0.434 to 0.480. I thought it was odd, but everything lined up from 200-700yards and I was tagging 10-12” plates all the way.

Over the 30 rounds chrono’ed velocity was 2510fps, SD 10-12fps, ES 30-36.

There was one shot before this to figure out what the offset was after switching from 6.5CM to .308. This is the next 3 shots.

I was kinda rushed today so forgot to snag a pic on the line. This will have to do.

What color is this? Sage Green?

My factory AX 1:10" Bartlein hammers with the FGMM 175. It's the best choice if you plan on shooting past 800 yards.

I picked some up from Palmetto State on an awesome sale, wouldn't hesitate to buy more.

The 16-3/4” shorty loves the 168gr FGMM. Today’s results:
7086870

Winds were switchey and she held her own out to ~580yards. Past that I was really struggling. 10” and 12” circles at 620, 675, 695 yards were brutal. I definitely think I’ll finish off the 168gr’s and pick up some 175gr’s or the Berger 185gr Juggernauts.

Switched to the 6.5CM and it was laughable.

Pretty impressed with the RTZ. Yesterday I took the .308 barrel off to put the 6.5CM barrel on so I could level a brake. Switched back to .308 and was dead nuts on as seen above. Then I switched to 6.5CM this afternoon and used my offset data from May 20th and was spot on again.

Side note to everyone I have recommended Berger’s 140gr factory ammo: the most recent lot’s recipe seems to have changed. Lot # P001283 is running 45-50fps faster than the last 3 lots I used. All 3 previous lots were in the 2810-2840fps range depending on temp. I had some of that lot leftover today and was still 2840fps. I switched to the new lot and was getting 2885-2890fps.

For what its worth, I run 175gr FGMM exclusively in my AI's with very positive results. 168s are for the TacOps guns. You can basically get 168s and 175s at the same cost now but the 175s will definitely help at the further distances.

Damn, 24" 6.5 tube? That's smoking fast. Is the new lot still shooting tight and have good es/ad? They load in Lapua brass? I'm glad I'm not the only one who has some issues with wind and the 308 on ates at distance!

Yeah 24” factory AI 6.5CM barrel with hellfire brake. Yeah, high single digit SD’s and ES’s of 20-30. Yes, SRP Lapua Brass.

It is good to know I have company lol

Thank you MACHTECH and gravfed for posting those pictures. Beautiful rifles, btw. I placed my order for a Elite Sand AXMC in 300 Norma from EuroOptic so hopefully this week I'll have her.

I tried the FGMM Berger 185 Juggs this past weekend out of a 20" 1:12 barrel on my AT, as well as a box of FGMM175. This is a "new" barrel to me, having picked it up off the forums a few months back.

I wasn't able to get a group below about 3/4" or so with the Juggs. The 175s brought it down a little, but not as low as my old 26" 1:12 was able to do with 168s (I averaged 0.4MOA on a square range). So maybe it was just an off day for me, but who knows. I only have one more box of 175s, but have 380 rounds of the 185s left. I'll be shooting a local match this weekend using the 185s, so I'll see how that goes. Aside from this past weekend, I haven't shot in about three months. ? So it's possible I was just having an off day, but again, who knows. The Juggs have a suggested twist rate of 1:12, and my DA is usually getting up there due to temps, so I can't see that being an issue that would negatively affect stability. I usually place in the upper 1/3 of the ranks, so we'll see.

I do plan to spend some time seeing how they group as soon as I can after the match (probably be a few weeks, realistically), and will report back then. I am just using an old USO ST-10 w/GAP reticle, so it's not as precise an optic as a high-mag variable. To be honest, 0.75MOA isn't too bad for a fixed 10x w/ a thicker reticle, all things considered, but that 0.4MOA average was using the same optic. Go figure.

Did some load workup today. Unfortunately I had my physicality stacked in my opposition.

Pro tip: don’t work out at the gym for two hours, pound an energy drink, and think you’ll be able to do good load development while shooting next to two guys with muzzle breaked AR’s throwing lead down range like they’re back in Fallujah.

It felt good to get back behind the AI again. It had been a few months with moving, then finally buying a scope.

Thinking of swapping to the AX buttstock after the SHC.

Took the AXMC out for the first time today.
7091378

1st 5 shots down the barrel. Shot 1 was high, 2nd was slightly left, then 3-5 stacked in nicely. This is factory Berger ammo with the 230gr Hybrid.
7091380

Plugged the info from the magneto speed into Ballistic Arc and went straight to 500yds. Shots 6-10
7091381

Overall, Ive extremely happy with this combo. Might be a week or two though before I can stretch her out past 1k.

I wish I had kept this 260 REM. I didn't even get to compete with it.

Well i finally joined the club. 2018 AX308 brand new from our local distributor here in Australia: Delta Tactical. Colour is Elite Sand; however, im painting it later this week. Up top is a Nightforce ATACR 7-35x56 with a Tremor3 reticle. This is going to be my new PRS rig. Currently has a 26inch 308 barrel; however, a 24 inch 6.5 creedmoor barrel is being spun up now from a bartlein blank i got from a prize table at the PRS here. Shooting it later this week.

mkIII I just picked up from @roncar2008
I just finished shortening the barrel to 16.25 and threading it 5/8-24. These AE's have some of the smoothest actions I have ever felt. Heading out to the range in a few to see how it performs!

Seeing pics of AW’s and AE’s with stubby barrels and cans like yours is what started me lusting after AI’s. Oddly enough I still haven’t picked up a stubby barrel for my AT.

I’ll play, here’s my AX short action, 16” handguard, Zero Compromise MPCT2 in 26” 1-6.5 twist 223wylde.

Today I had a chance to run 100rds of XM193. I will say this ammo is crap out of this fast twist barrel struggled to maintain 2” at 100yds. This thing really loves 77 & 80.5 Berger’s.

Those of you running a magnum caliber AXMC with the 30 MOA rail, and a Spuhr mount, did you go with a 0 cant rail or one with cant? I bought the 6mil/20.6 MOA Spuhr and with the zero stop set on my 7-35 Atacr, I have exactly 31.5 mils of elevation travel. I feel like my zero is pretty close the adjustment range limit. Should I run with this set up or opt for 0 MOA rail? With the 300 Norma I need approximately 22 mils to get to 2000 yards, which I feel will be the farthest I'll get an opportunity to shoot it.

I put a 0 mil spuhr (4006) on my 300NM because our local range is only 1000yd and that left me with 24.5mils on an M7xi. Looking at AB and Strelok I apparently need around 24mils at 2000 so I suppose this could be a problem at some point but I’m not even sure where I could shoot that far around here so I’ll cross that bridge when I come to it.
