On the bright side, Big Green does make some cool stuff.

What happened?

Re: Don't tell me Remingtons don't fall apart.

Not my rifle. Those were taken in my gunsmiths shop, along with some pics of an M24 and such. He says he gets a couple a year like that in and often builds Winchesters for Army snipers.

Re: Don't tell me Remingtons don't fall apart.

What you see is very common in the Rem 700's in the bigger calibers. The saying in the safari industry about the 700's is...'if the bolt doesn't fall appart the extractor will break- always at the wrong moment.'

In part this is because they are being worked very hard, in very hot conditions etc. In .416 Rem the problems are at their worst. Generally we put a pin through the bolt handle to make sure it stays on and replace the original extractor with one from a sako or an M16

Re: Don't tell me Remingtons don't fall apart.

Did you already buy the stock??????!! Or are you military?

Sorry about the bolt, that really sucks.

Re: Don't tell me Remingtons don't fall apart.

I took no pictures that day of anything that belongs to me. My gunsmith has some coolguy gear that most can't get. I also took pics of an M24 in .300 Magnum that is property of Big Green. It's in an AICS and has a Surefire mount, which is odd, but who am I to judge?

Re: Don't tell me Remingtons don't fall apart.

The bolt coming apart seems like a pretty common occurance. I've seen about 4-5 come apart in the last few years. What I did with mine, and I have seen a COUPLE other people do is drill and tap the bolt and countersink 3 screws with epoxy.

Mine hasn't failed.

Interesting thread here, with pictures, that goes to some recent threads about tig welding the bolt handles on. Thanks for posting it.

Or tig weld it.

It's an easy fix... I have all my M700 Bolts done.
