Are there 30 mm rimfire scope rings? I am trying to mount an aimpoint on a marlin .22 bolt action. Or is there a picatinny mount that will bolt to the dove tails, or scope rail, or whatever it is called on the top of a marlin?

Thanks,
avd

What would be the benefit to this over just mounting rings straight on the dovetail? Is it simply more choice in rings? Is there a difference in how sturdy the mount is?

My father-in-law just bought my son his first rifle and I'm looking at scope mounting options. It's a Marlin/Glenfield single shot. I've got time as I'm not going to put glass on it until he's doing well with the irons but I'm trying to learn about the different options.

Thanks.

it's a 20MOA rail.. so you get to go longer distance on your scope..

Okay, thanks.

Are there any benefits other than that? In this case I'm talking about a rifle that was just bought for a 6 year old so I don't see him needing the extra range for a long long time.

Nope.

If that's the case I'd look at BKL rings ("Google" them) once you know if the receiver rail is 3/8" or 11mm.
